It means, FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL.

Just think of two file cabinets which are separated by a few feet.
File Cabinet A contains some files you want to TRANSFER to File Cabinet B.

In between the two file cabinets is a PERSON, who takes the files from File Cabinet A and TRANSFERS them to File Cabinet B.

This is what FTP does, it acts as the "protocol" or in other words, the mechanism by which files are transferred from one place to the next.

In order for you to do this, you have to have an FTP program and you have to have a login name and password.

In FTP procedures, you set up an ACCOUNT between File Cabinet A and File cabinet B. Think of your computer as being File Cabinet A. You want to LOGON to File Cabinet B so that you can access the files there and then either transfer files from A to B or from B to A. FTP works both ways. Files can be transferred back and forth. Usually, the login is ANONYMOUS and the way to log into a public FTP is to use the term ANONYMOUS or anon or anonymous.

There are many free FTP programs, here is one from Coffeecup:

You will have to install the FTP "client" on your computer and then LOGIN to the phone FTP site. You might have to ask your carrier how to login to their FTP site so that you can download files from the phone through your bluetooth usb dongle.

In this case, you would have the following FTP scenario:

Your Computer..<>USB Device..<>PHONE..<>Their FTP Server

So the USB Device and the PHONE are just intermediary devices that facilitate the download. Where you are going to login to is the FTP Server on the opposite end of the connection. Their FTP site may only allow ONE WAY downloading and may not have a PUBLIC folder. You can only UPLOAD if the FTP Server has a PUBLIC folder to login to. Otherwise, you have a PRIVATE FTP Folder on the SERVER side that only allows downloading but not uploading.

I think so, it's the new wave of "sig spam". They post half-relevant info and their signature does the spamming for them, which is why it's not actually a proper signature but just something added to the end of each post. They can evade automated signature parsing spam-detection that way.
