How can you record video off youtube?
How can you record video off of youtube.com because it only plays them on the site. I want to know this because they have alot of cool shit with bands live shows & i want to put them on DVD. Any help?

Sometimes you can:
right click > view page info > media > and then get the URL of the "embed" object which is the video. Works on most sites. Also, I have a firefox browser.

no, because google video files are not wmv or avi format, they are their own kind of odd compressed file. google it, i've seen tutorials on how to do it although its a pain

check out metalmedia they have a lot of vid's you may find them on there downloadable. if that doesn't help, do what Tranny said and google it...

Ahh, ok. Youtube / google video / all that stuff doesn't work on my firefox browser anyways so I always have to open explorer), so I was just guessing that it would work. Bah.

The videos on Youtube and Google were made with Macromedia Flash. The video file itself is a part of another file, the .swf file. It is the file extension for all the Flash stuff you see on the web.
As far as aquiring said video, your best bet would be to get one of those little utilities they have that allow you to just grab Flash vids right off of web sites, or use a screen capture program which will record everything that happens on your screen. The second option would involve slightly more work as you'd have to go into a video editing program to crop it so that just the video shows and make any other necessary adjustments. However, neither option will work for a DVD because these are videos that were compressed and optimized for the web, and are not of very high quality. They would look like shit on DVD.

I've always wanted to download movies from youtube and put them in .mov format so I can put them on my ipod. I'll try doing what you guys suggest when I'm not on a computer with dialup.

With judicious use of Google, you should be able to figure out how to download YouTube files and convert them into any equivalent video format in about five minutes.

FBS right in this situation.
If you have firefox, get the add-on "download helper". That add-on helps you download various media off the internet, and it's customizable to whatever types of files you want to download. After you get that extension, or another like it, that's pretty much where his statement kicks in. Try typing in google "how to convert .flv files".
