The Olympic Ice Hockey thread.
So, predictions? I think it'll go like this:
Gold: Russia
Silver: Canada
Bonze: Slovakia
Right now I'm watching Russia vs. Slovakia. It's tied at 3-3 after the second period.
Gah, 5-3 to Slovakia. The real salt in the wound is that the winning two goals were scored in the last five minutes, by the same person. Russia's defence better step up, come to think of it offensively they were pretty poor as well. Something like 23 shots to Slovakia's 36.

The most I can predict is the following: Canada and Eastern European countries will play well and probably take home some sort of prize. Wasn't that exciting? It will be a big change from the last winter olympics, when the more obvious powerhouses of Tanzania, New Guinea, and Ecuador took home the medals. And I think it's about time these smaller places where people also like hockey get recognized.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Canada by FAR has the best players, most depth, and most experience of any team. Not to mention the best coaching staff ever assembled. Russia...no worries, stop the Kovalchuk, Kovalev, and Ovechkin line...game over. Canada can roll 4 lines and still win, other teams cannot. To top that off Canada could make 2 teams and still end up with goal and silver. |

I would just like to point OUT, although indeed I am not a patriot or even very fond of my nation, that Tre Kronor just now made the TV room of this house inhabitable - my parents were watching the game - and became winners of the olympic games. Yet another gold to Sweden, not bad for a country with only marginally more than nine million inhabitants.
