performance and presentation
I wasn't sure where to put this as we don't really have a "gigs" sub forum. At all our shows we use American Dj pentabeam lasers and a 175 output fog machine. Since metal gigs are much more entertaining for your fans when it is extravagant and show-off-ish, I thought I'd ask and see what tips and tricks anyone here uses during their shows. We like to play samples from old movies when were on stage in the dark waiting for the lights to come on, to pull our crowd in. The latest one we've adopted is the quote from the 13th warrior when they are about to fight the last battle with the wendel. "lo there do I see my father.....etc.." It is super epic then we go into an uptempo song about soldiers riding into battle. I think the performance and presentation of metal is almost as important as the music itself. But then again, I'm an 80's child and I can't get enough of that shit.

That sounds nice man. You know what i would wanna do? Take something like the intro to Hell awaits by Slayer and like get the crowed really tense and then hit the lights and be really near the crowd and have like some lenses that look really scary, to scare the crowd a bit before the song kicks in.
Sorry if i got of topic, i just wanted to know if anyone else thinks the same way.

the worst i endured was multiple fog machines and a strobe light at a few shows i can remember, kinda hard to see around and the hand syncopation gets all fucked up visually for drumming.
one show i remember was my old band opening up for a popular underground noise/rock band in oakland, all normal lights turned off, they used purple lights like the kind you have for those glow posters, so everything is really dark, then you have these cameramen idiots from the local newspapers taking pictures of us and every flash fucked me up, the most annoying shock to the senses. they took alot of pictures of my band and im sure any mention of us in thier shitty mag was like a sentence compared to the full length on the headliner. i bet they said we suck completely ignorant of the fact the whole band would teeter on edge of losing the song upon each photo flash. that shit still pisses me off. all the other bands played with the lights on too
