Refinishing a guitar.
Are there any places that I could send a guitar to get refinished in North America that are well known and reliable. Links would be appreciated if they're available. (I checked warmoth and they don't do it.)
Thanks guys.

Most luthiers can finish guitars for you.

Repainting.
I'll ask at one of my local shops to see if there are any good luthiers in town who would do it for me.

My best advice:
Go to your local car dealership and talk to the guys who paint cars. If you want to do something fairly simple, they'll do it for you for about $100.
Otherwise, do some research, and you can do it yourself pretty easy. It just involves stripping your guitar, applying some primer and paint, and then clearing and sanding your ass off. It's not that hard. I've been wanting to do it (and probably will be doing it soon), but I don't really have the time or facilities for it.
Seriously, a lot of car painters will paint and clear your guitar and do a good job. I had one do it, and it turned out great.

Keep in mind car shops work on METAL and not wood...so it may be a little different.

does it make any difference if the paints used on the guitar are metal/chrome based?

I started repainting my electric blue BC Rich Bich back in July, and I fucked up my back bad, but I finally got it finished about a week ago, and now all I have to do is get an air compressor, and put some EMG's in it and I'm done. Whatever you do, take a break ever 30 minutes or so, so you don't fuck up your back too.

This is true, but these guys have the most experience in painting, wet buffing, sanding and clearing. And they will do it pretty cheap if it's not a crazy graphic. I wouldn't get a guy who paints houses to do it, though.
The guys I know who do this paint a variety of different objects, from cars, to motorcycles, motorcycle helmets, etc. I've had good results.

Your aim isnt to sand the body, its to remove the paint.
