I shall be going to Montreal for several days later this month. Have any of you been? If so, can you recommend any interesting places to check out? Great pubs? Good (cheap)hostels/hotels you stayed at? Or anything else you may want to add.

Montreal is fucking awsome. Im from there, and go there all twice a year. Make sure you go downtown alot, its fun as hell there. And I wouldnt know about hotels cause I stay at my grandparents when I go. Yea... so have fun.

I was hoping that I would walk into Lord Worm or someone of Cryptopsy over the winter break. The CD stores there are awsome, make sure you go to a store called Archenbault or something like that. Most of them have this both thing where they'll open the cd for you and they'll let you listen to it. Some of the stores even have buch of guitars and basses and stuff. If you go downtown, walk down the road "Saint Catrine'. Thats the most busiest road in Canada, I think. You'll most likely find someone from Cryptopsy there then Gorguts cause Gorguts is from another small town called Sherbrooke. Make sure you go see a Montreal Canadian's hockey game while your up there.

I don't remember Montreal(been to the airport a few times)..I've only really drove through it via on the way to Toronto...however, the good thing is that it's the "English Quebec"...don't venture outside the city unless you want to Experience France...seriously, the rest of the province is totally francais..such as Quebec City..and there are NO English signs(road and restaurent..well at least mcdonalds..)

and yes, archambault kicks fuckin ass. That's where I bought Finntroll's Nattfodd, which I couldn't find anywhere else. It's a little pricy, but so what. Their guitar selection isn't that great tho, but they're ok for keyboards I guess.

Well I'm going to school in Ottawa (the captial of Canada) which is an hour drive (more like 45 minutes) from Montreal. The main place where all the fun is happening is on St. Catherines street. This is the main street of montreal, you will find all the clubs, shops ect. Lots of people speak english, so if you know little to no french, it's ok. Montreal is split into 3 main sections; West island (English, and little french spoken here) Main island (contains st. catherines st) and then main land montreal. The transit system (subways, streetcars and buses are very good. It might also be worth your time to go to ottawa since all the government buildings are there, house of commons and senate are all within walking distance of each other and downtown. I know its a 25 dollar bus ride from montreal to ottawa, so its cheap. Anyways, have a blast, and visit some cafes and get your smoke on!

edit: oh yes, the women of montreal/ottawa are smokin

Make sure you check out any live shows that may be going down. As for restaurants, good luck if you can't speak French! You can't go wrong with Subway. Combo #1.

When you come to Canada, go to the SAQ (beer & booze store) and get a beer called Trois Pistol. 9%, comes in six packs only....oh man it's sooooo good

There's a place in downtown Montreal called "Le Labyrinthe" (The Maze)
which has pretty much everything you could want from a Metal store .. CD's , clothes, patches, etc.

yeah, Labyrinthe is pretty cool, but they don't have everything either... See what you can find though... That's on Ste. Catherine, but was it near Peel or St. Denis or something? I can't remember...

Duty free shops are at borders and airports. You won't be able to miss it.

There are a lot of French Canadian beers that have 9% alcohol. My personal favorite's Le Fin du Monde, but they're all pretty good. It has a champagne style cork, though.
