Avoiding Spam
i know that by creating a new account at a forum or site or whatever, its common for your email address to get shared. and i know that after using paypal or ebay youre likely to get phishing emails. but whats REALLY bugging me is that i often get IMs from what seems to be just one site, sweetie at cp or something like that. how can i possibly avoid that? i never put my name anywhere (like on here, where it says AIM , i dont put anything because a name harvester could get that information) and i dont post my screename anywhere, and STILL about once a day i get an IM from one of those bots
does anyone else have this problem or know of any other ways to avoid it? i have no idea why it continues to happen. and they make new screenames every time.
feel free to lock if you feel this is inappropriate however id like to see if anyone else has these problems with AIM, or msn for that matter

err, block the sender?
I get those fraud emails every now and then asking for my login information and shit. that's basically it. I once got one of those penis enlargement emails and I replied to it, with my lenght. that shut them up  |

I get some stuff that's junk at my yahoo account. I delete the crap in my bulk folder and anything I don't expect gets reported to their spam account. I don't think I've ever gotten an IM message anywhere from a bot and I only accept IM's from people that I know anyways so that's never been a problem.

All spam emails that come through my .edu account contain "BULK" in the subject line. I delete all emails with the word BULK in it, never opening them at all.

nah there are DEFINITELY spam bots out there. nobodys messing with me, its for a real site (but i havent gone there, out of spite...) maybe ill check it out on the school comps. theres a great idea 
and yeah def i block the sender but they make new accounts anyways so it does me no good
its like drive by AIM spamming

I have AIM. Isn't there a setting that you can choose to not get random IM's from people? I'm pretty sure that's how mine was set up.

Sometimes good stuff gets sent to the bulk folder for no reason though, like newsletters and even other people's messages. So should check that stuff if you don't do so already before you delete it.
I advertise my AIM name on every forum I go to, and never get these bot things. |

remember that Art.com thread a while back where you could draw something and watch what you did at super fast speeds? well, now im getting emails about discounts and shit on how they can ship my art to me  i tryed deleting and blocking and shit but it keeps comming back, same with alot of gambluing and Itunes stuff (i use windows media player, easyer i find)

just use a secondary e-mail one that is just for sites that ask for e-mails (ones that you don't trust) but you want something from them and you have to register
