i dont know if theres anything to blame at all, but everyone should be able to agree there's an inordinate amount of brain tumors going on in the metal scene. and dont just say its because there are a lot of people in the metal scene, becuase you dont hear about it in other pop culture areas

Just a reason for the media to display that something is wrong with the people that play metal music.
Seriously though, metals do cause cancers and other mental defects. Computer techs, and gearheads, that spend a ton of time working close with lead or aluminum alloy fumes and dust seem prone to mental/nerve disorders, like cancer.

Really??? Wow, I missed that one. Go me.
Sucks about that. Kind of fucked up, really. Its getting a bit weird. You know, the correlation between metal and tumors, and what not.

Lots of people get brain tumors, not just people in metal. You just happen to know a shitload of more people in metal than anything else maybe. If some douche bag pop punker got a brain tumor, would you even hear or care enough to remember? Maybe we just know more cause we pay more attention to metal.

dude, i already pointed out that argument. i WOULD know if some pop punk/r+b artist got a brain tumor, and i would happily list it in the stastics. im not trying to argue a point here guys, just discuss it. so far ive heard no reasonable conclusions and i dont think there is one. its so weird, though. arent brain tumors fairly rare

Most gearheads will actually modify electronics themself without the right protection, or touch lead jounts or not claen there electonic work arear then use their finger to mix their drink or touch their cigerette butt and bring it to their lips. I use to do it myself. Metal toxins take time to build up and have delayed effects on the body. No telling how much solder lead fumes I've inhald and ingested.
Thing is, I learned about that shit and now take safety very seriously before I do anymore damage. I think that is why most metalheads might now be coming down with nerve disorders. Like I said. It has been been discovered with electonic techs the from the past. I'm willing to bet most metalheads are electronic techs to some degree in search for the perfect tone. Metal poison is easy to prevent, but easy to overlook.
Deductive logic explains the rest.

As far as I know, ALS is something you are born with. And should, in the case of Becker and Hawking, have died of an impressively long time ago.
Anyhow, so if I understand this correctly, my using Insane's thread of logic leads me to this conclusion:
The prime reason that we know of more cases of brain and nerve disorders in the metal scene is because that there the people on the scene is more often involved in the backstagework. Whereas most mainstrem artists hardly even know how to write a song, and leaves such tedious tasks to those we never hear of...

I worked with a woman who had brain tumors removed that could be and had some that had to remain there due to their location. One day at a seminar her blood pressure went up and she felt ill. One of her best friends was there and helped her out. We thought she was feeling faint, but in reality her eye was being forced from the socket from the pressure. They did what was necessary and she was fine, but that was one of the things she had to live with. It had happened before. No, it didn't come all the way out, but just forces out a ways. Her tumors were from her ex beating her in the head, but she still works multiple jobs to support her and her daughter.
Another guy I know about my age was found passed out in his apartment and it was from brain tumors. He had surgery to remove them, but he's a bit odd at times. After years have passed, they've come back and he's ready to have another surgery in about a month. Hopefully it will work out okay for him. He can't drive and has to have someone watch over him a bit daily although he lives alone. He can't drive or handle his own money. Stuff like that.

Another friend worked with lead molds at the local Rubber Company and he said they would bring milk around periodically to the workers because it absorbs the lead they might get in their systems working with it.
I tested paint in my almost 100 year old house before I started any painting projects to make sure we didn't have lead. That stuff is bad business.

Ive always been aware of this, but just brushed it off since im still young i suppose. I am a mechanic and constantly breath in rust, brake dust and every other toxic type shit from the filthy fucking vehicles all those slobs out there bring in for me to fix. I try not to breath that crap in but its hard not to. Im not even sure i want to continue this job for the REST of my life due to that fact alone. Its something i have to think about every single day. Its probably one of the most unhealthy jobs (other than body-work that i also used to do).

I knew a body man who had one heck of a fine business, but he's got so many lung problems now he has oxygen he takes with him. Those old asbestos brakes and stuff that used to be around made stopping for traffic lights a little bit harmful from what I've heard old-timers say, and they weren't around that long ago.
Even when I worked in kitchens there was stuff I refused to use cleanerwise because of the hazards. And aerosols and flour I'd hold my breath when using and walk away from the area til it settled. I told the kids I worked with to do the same thing. Bakers can get black lung just like coal miners.
Brain tumors scare the heck out of me. Especially the way mine works sometimes.
