Please help a student wiht his studies into the music busine
Could people please spare five minutes and help a PHD student do some research for his project.
A brief outline of what im trying to achieve. Im working towards a research project for a PHD in Advertising. The area of research i have chosen to look at is 'how is digital distribution changing the way consumers get, use and feel about a product' To put that into english, i am conducting research into how the internet is changing the way that we get our music, games, movies etc and what it does to our attitudes on the item. For example, very few of us would go into a shop and steal a cd, yet most of us have stolen a song via napster type sites, why is this?
I have tried to keep it brief, for more information on the research it can be found here. I will publish updates and articles for users to read as time goes along so you can see how you views are being used. if i can ask one big favour form people - can you spread the word on th eproject so we can get as many opinion as possible.

I think illegally downloading music is fine, good way to find out what bands and songs you like so you can buy their cd

I still don't see the difference between getting it off someplace like the old Napster or borrowing the music from someone else. It's just easier to do on the net and there's more people that have the stuff.

There's bands I've never heard of anywhere other than on the net and I've listened to some and liked them so much I've bought the cd's. I'm sure I'm not the only one like that. Our radio stations around here don't play that much variety and I'm glad I had net songs to go to instead of listening to all the pop stuff. A lot of that is just garbage. When i do have my radio on it's on NPR most of the time and I listen to classical stuff, folk, or Thistle and Shamrock.
