Who here reads the lyrics of death metal bands and who here knows the name of the songs or just puts a handful of tracks on mixes without paying attention to the details?
I dont read em but i do know the song names.

i dont know the lyrics but i know the names to almost every song on my playlist 
right now Emaciate from Cryptopsy
also i know some of the parts of some song, like graves of the fathers when it says "a mothers cunt is unpure" and shit like that

The average DM band is full of people who couldn't write anything meaningful if they were held at gunpoint. Most death metal lyrics I ignore. There's only so many times my poor old mother can be damned.

i dont read the lyrics of generic DM. viking metal (tyr for example) sometimes has cool lyrics. wintersun, etc.any kind of prog metal has good lyrics too, unless its just phoney

I do with most everything I listen to. A little slacking in the more extreme metal department, but sometime when I'm bored I'll look them over. That's why I decided I liked Death more than just a song or two. Some of the lyrics (don't ask me to get specific) are pretty good.
I think because I like to write lyrics and like to have a broad range of subjects to write about and styles to try I pay more attention to any lyrics.

I don't pay attention to lyrics of any music. I'm so driven by guitars and drums, the lyrics are just there to aid the music, but if I listen to a particular song long enough, I eventually subconsciously know the lyrics.

That's probably why I started listening to Melodic DM, because usually you can somewhat make up the lyrics and sometimes there not so bad....but yeah, a lot of DM lyrics are a joke...the best lyrics come from within your mind.

I tend to like reading death metal lyrics, especially ones like Cannibal Corpse's. I think it's for similar reasons that I like the Friday the 13th movies and other such ridiculous "scary" things.

i only listen if it really sticks out to me, i like to think of vocals as another instrument rather than lyrics. if a singer punctuates: the, right' rythem it will sound awesome if he recited the instruction manual for a paper shredder

I will usually listen to an album heaps before I look at lyrics - after a buy a CD, I sit down with the booklet and follow through it. Usually I dont bother with DM lyrics because they are generally shit. Impaled have really good lyrics though.
I read along with more power metal type lyrics, they are better, easier to understand and fun to sing along with.

Most death metal bands are not relateable to me. Well the really gorey ones like cannibal corpse or something, I'm screwed up and all but I'm no rapist or serial killer. But no death metal lyrics mean nothing to me, it's all about the music itself. I realate more to Slayer (they are not death metal as a lot of ignorant people think), not the violent shit but the anti-christian stuff.

I'll usually have a read when I first buy the CD. Gore lyrics are hilarious. I usually know the song names, and I get to know the lyrics if you can hear them properly - I can't understand anything Lord Worm says. Vocals aren't important for me at all.
