Im sick of seeing people bag on great shredders. People always say that "that sux, hes just showng off". showing off has nothing to do with it. people shred for themselves, for their own fulfillment. And its fun as hell if u can do it. they are just pushing their limits to see what they can really acheive, progressing. hence the name "progressive". these guys are doing things that alot of people will never be able to do...... so at least pay some respect.

Now if he were in his twenties, I'd write him off as another Chops From Hell columnist. But I can't judge an 8 year old by those standards, its simply not fair. A fair judgement would be when his mind has matured to a point that allows him to be truly inventive and think of original ideas. He has unholy speed and dexterity, that's much, much more than I would expect an 8 year old to accomplish.

i agree with john holland. you can't expect an eight yr old to show musical ingenuity and creativity, anymore than you could expect an eight yr old to write powerfull literiture or even form their own opinions about complex things.

you gotta distinguish between the two areas of guitar - playing and composition.

in playing this kid is going to be as good as the best if he keeps it up, no doubt about it.

and in composition? well the field isn't really overflowing with musical genius.
even those considered musically brilliant aren't a patch on the classical composers.
besides, composing music with shredding is like trying to paint a picture with only one colour.

I've seen this vid before. I'm not too crazy about shredders. Never was. It's not just about how many notes you can squeeze into one second, it's also about melody. Who cares if you can play 100mph if what you're playing sounds like just a bunch of random notes being played together.
This kid, however, has got that aspect covered, too, as he did some cool melodic sounding stuff. He's very skilled and obviously very talented. I'm really happy for him, but I just hope that he's not into playing guitar more than living life.
When you're eight fucking years old, you don't wanna just lock yourself in your room for days and do nothing but play guitar. You gotta go out and fucking do shit. Play games, have fun, develop social skills, be a fucking kid. You only get to be a kid once in your life and you gotta make it worth your while.
Anyway, best of luck to that kid, I'll definitely look forward to hearing more from him as he gets older and matures. He might just be the next big thing. You nver know. He's definitely got more skill than I, even though I've probably been playing for less time than he has. How sad is that? I'm 23 fucking years old, and there's an eight year old kid out there who's been playing guitar for longer than I and can hand me my own ass in a playing contest.

The kid definately has alot of talent when it comes to the technique aspect, expecially for his age, and i respect him alot for it.

But i dont agree with the comment 'we will be seeing more of him' like he will turn out to be some guitar hero. Now i am not saying he won't, but i can see a kid start playing guitar when hes 17 and arrising to a level thats as high as this kid. I mean if you really look at it, there are 100's of guitarists that can all do near the same stuff, but what differs between them all seems to be style and music writing ability. How popular they get depends on how much consumers eat it up.

No doubt if this kid sticks to it, he will be a great guitarist, but that doesn't mean people are going to go crazy over him just because of age. When i rate people i hardly ever look at age. Its impressive if a kid thats 17 can write and play great songs such as a Jason Becker, but seriously, is it that much different if Jason Becker was 45 when he came out with Perpetual Burn? I think viewing it relative to age is almost comparing music to a sport in a way, although there are similiarities. Sports usually has some sort of age limit, like you never see a 60 year old football play in the NFL. In music though, age should never matter, Allan Holdsworth is absolutely incredible, and hes still doing it at around that age of 60 (Not to mention he started guitar when he was 17). And honestly, even this kid may not get to the level Allan Holdsworth has reached, along with a majority of every guitar player, lol.

All i am saying is, you can complement this kid for his great talent at what he can do at an early age, but don't automatically think that this kid will be some kind of pro. It all depends on how much work he puts into it and even more importantly, how he views music and the guitar, which is what seperates the best guitarists from the rest. I have met professors at colleges who i feel don't have as good a view on music as say much less experienced players, like my teacher, who none of you know, lol.
