I need a new hobby
I need something to do besides listen to/play music. Maybe someone could tell me of a video game? one that would last me forever (already have morrowind). An MMORPG with no monthly fee would be good. Any other ideas are great too, thanks.

Let me go check my collection
Chronicles of narnia, The nunavar(forgot the name i'll put something similar) tapestry and the archwizard(also a rough estimation) archipelago we're all great fantasy reads. I stand by my previous suggestions too.

Life of pi is about a indian boy who is trapped on a raft with a 450 pound bengal tiger.

if you want a gay timewasting free online multiplayer game, try runescape ( www.runescape.com)
I was hooked for fuckin ages, then they changed it and it got gayer, and i got bored with it anyway. But it was fun for a while/

haha, i havent even logged in for like a year, but i know it will still be really gay.
The graphics used to be real simple, and then they tried to make them good. Which is worse, coz now its a game with horrible graphics, and you know they were trying to make them good.

just kidding, i read all the time actually. I was thinkin about some cool fantasy books i just read that are based off this ultra-nerdy card game called magic: the gathering that me and my friends play. It's a cool game but its semi expensive to get started, or if u really like fantasy type stuff get into D&D. Its one of those things that you so with two of your friends and then never tell any one else about because they would make fun of you, but its pretty fun. I personally like to play D&D with all 19 of my Rhapsody shirts on with Hammerfall playing in the background, then when the games over we all take turns masturbating to pictures of Ronnie James Dio.

Ok.
1. Learn to use Valve Hammer. With this, you can make maps in Half-Life, and it's mods (Counter Strike).
2. Play KZ maps on Counter Strike.
3. Play FF7, Front Mission Three, Super Mario's RPG, Kirby's Superstar, River City Ransom, Contra III.
4. Fence.
5. Try luicid dreaming. Google it to find out what it's all about.

yeah the national epics, the real mythology is far better to read than the bogus fantasy roleplayinggame fiction. ive read lord of the rings too and liked them but my main reading stuff is history, serious novels. lately autobiographies by early punk and hardcore bands and fanzine stuff . stuff thats at least an attempt at decent literature or is reality based. sometimes ill read cyberjunk william gibson, neal stephenson stuff but not in recent years. i highly recommend george orwells 1984, this book got me into reading books regularly and is my all time favorite

Guild Wars is supposed to be a top shit MMORPG, but i never play MMORPGs so I can't tell you.
D&D is a good idea, but you have to find some buddies that will play it with you, and if your buddies are anything like mine one of 2 things will happen. You will play it to a point where you are sick of it in order to try to get as much done as you can, OR you will start out alright, but qill quickly devolve into the characters looking for the local 'cat house'.
If you want a good book that is pretty much just vampires and violence, then go looking for Necroscope, by Brian Lumley.

Ok, here goes:
1. Learn sound engineering.
2. Historical re-enactment.
3. European Medieval Swordsmanship (If I were you, I'd go for this one!)
4. Become a Darth Vader impersonator.
5. Buy some Stormtrooper armour and head to your local Star Wars prop club.
6. Learn how to take care of yourself in the forest with no supplies. Practice regularly.
On the subject of RPGs, if you're into Star Wars, definitely get Knights of the Old Republic I and II. Those two games are the best I've ever played.

Get a book called "The Bachman Books" it is Stephen King's alias so he could escape his writing patterns for a while. In my opinion he wrote better pretending to be someone else, as the only book by Stephen King himself that I enjoyed was Eye of the Dragon or something, it was a great book back in fantasy das with dragons and shit.
But with Bachman Books, this one was 4 books in one, Rage, Roadwork, The Long Walk and The Running Man. The Running man was turned into a movie by some faggot which starred Arnie but this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and the only thing I see that they have in common is the Title. Seriously they are that alien to each other.
Rage is about a school siege with a student holding up a classroom at gunpoint. The Long Walk is about 100 kids that enter a 100 mile walk if I remember right. But there are some certain rules to this walk, if you get the book you'll find out. The Running Man is a great action story about a guy that is down on money and has a sick child, so he enters a game show with a $1 billion dollar prize money. In this game, he has to run and hide as best he can from pretty much everyone, because in this game there is a price on your head.
They are fucking great books, I never read Roadwork though, It really didn't catch me. Maybe you read it and tell me about it, haha

One book series I highly recommend, other than the Dark Tower and the Vampire Chronicles, is the Resident Evil series. I'm on book 3 which is actually based on Resident Evil 2 with Leon and Clair in the Raccoon City police station. The books are actually true to the game series unlike the movies which are the biggest heaps of shit I've ever seen. Trust me, if you like the games you'll love the books.

Nice to see someone here other than me who reads them. I positive it will be based of RE4 which should be interesting. I say it's either in the works or is about to be published.
Shit, I forget there was a 0. I guess maybe since the game wasn't all that great is why I forgot. Maybe I'll read it after I finish book 6.

Resident Evil Zero was pretty good. I am going to beat RE4 tomorrow.
Play RPGs. If you get the first and second Xenosaga right now you will be busy for a while.
Books: Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series, and anything by Tad Williams.

0 was too watered down for me. The dual player concept was original, and Billy is one of my favorite characters other than Barry, but it was just really dull to me. 90% of the bosses were oversized ceatures other than the deformed creations I've learned to know and love. I think either RE2, RE3 or Code Veronica are my favorites. Re4 is great but it's was too different, I missed the zombies. By the way, there will be zombies in RE5. Heck Yes!

OH
DOWNLOAD THE GAME EXILE II : CRYSTAL SOULS! It's free and it's the most massive game I have ever played. You can find cracks for it everywhere, and it's only about 10 mb big, If you like gameplay over graphics, get this.
Over 100 spells, heaps and heaps of weapons, it's just huge, I've been playing it for about 3 or 4 years now.
ALTHOUGH, it has a bit of a learning curve. It's pretty simple game really, but really obscure to begin with. It took me about 3 hours to find out everything how to actually play when I was 13 when I started. But I can't express how much it is worth it.
Just google Exile II : Crystal Souls and you'll get it from Spiderweb Software.com and then find a patch so you don't gotta register. It's worth it in my opinion. It's all 2d, and it's turn based RPG, but, you gotta love it, it's amazing. I love this game!

I reccomend You get into Remote Control Aircraft
I started a while back, and it is a massive fun.
Yopu dont have to be serious or anything, just buy a good beginners plane ( for about $150 US) and itll last you years
i seriously reccommend it, a great 15 minutes to spend in the fresh air.
It might be hard to get your hands on planes where the hobby is not fully developed yet but there's always ebay and its big in major cities

Magic:The Gathering is cool. I bet there's 200 pounds of cards upstairs. And I got my eldest son a painting of a card and one of the special cards directly from the artist a couple years ago at the medieval faire. Some of the artwork is wonderful.
That's an option for boredom, too. Learn some type of creativity. Painting, sculpting, crafting, woodworking, cooking.

Final fantasy vii is my favourite computer game ever, and will take you a while to finish, the others are good too.
Read lord of the rings if you haven't already, and all of Douglas Adams' books (not just hitchhikers)
Take up juggling! It's really relaxing (once you can do it). It's cheap, you just buy 3 balls to start you off. I juggled burning clubs a few months ago with a friend of mine, it was really fun.

video games are a horrible hobby. You say you have lots of free time, or suggest it anyway, i think you should spend the time learning. especially if your wanting to read. dont read novels. read information, news, history, etc. at least that way youll be learning, not just wasting time.

Reading novels builds vocabulary and the storylines are usually better than any video game, movie, or TV show. They aren't a waste of time.

I can understand that. I liked the leech zombie a lot. I still think it was a valuable entry in the series. RE1 might be my favorite, since it was the reason I bought a playstation three years after it came out.

RE1 is brilliant.
"Don't open.... ....THAT DOOR!"
accompanied by the most bizarre and unnatural hand gestures ever.
My favourite conversation is:
Man (cant remember his name): What is it?
Jill: What is it?
Man: Blood....
...I hope its not... ....Chris's... ...blood
You have to hear the dialogue to appreciate how funny it sounds...
Aaaah, takes me back.

Lol.
Me and my friends love to make fun of that one. The characters practically do the robot whenever there's a conversation.
Oh, and MyOwnSavior, you just wait til book 5. Nemesis was the best game and book imo.

My doctor plays video games. He's about the same age as me and from Canada. I told him that I'd read somewhere that surgeons that play video games have better hand/eye co-ordination. He thought that was pretty cool. It's also cool because it gives him and some of his patients, like my son, a way to connect.
Although his hand/eye co-ordination wasn't so good when he got his stethoscope caught in the front of my bra by accident and it spun him around when he walked away. I thought I would die laughing. He accused me of trying to steal it!!! Oh man. He's basically got most of my family for patients, too. He earns his oats just between me and my mom. She's just as bad as me.

I looking foward to book 5 out of all of them since I think Nemesis was my favorite last boss, until that damn piece of shit movie. I may have changed my mind though, in book 3 Mr. X is such a bad ass.
I can't say I'm looking foward to book 4, or Underground. The cover suggest the storyline will be odd: A man in a black suit standing in front a wall of monitors with a huge Umbrella logo beneath him. At least that's the way I remember it, I could have gotten it wrong.

well all the books are excellent, its just that the ones that s.d. perry made herself are the worst (but still good). I dont remember much from underground, so i cant say. I think i disliked code:veronica the most.
Oh, and yeah, both movies sucked, but the first one id give a 2.5/5 stars
is it just me, or did this thread change into a resident evil thread?

Yeah it is now.
I liked the first movie better since it didn't fuck with the game series. Not unless you count the end were they take the guy to make him into Nemesis.
I figured Veronica wouldn't be too good. I loved it as a game I just couldn't see it as a book.
Oh and I can make you a RE avatar. You can see what I mean in the RTT.

I think they should just stop with the movies. They've done enough damage.
And Code: Veronica is definitly the hardest installment of the RE series. The trick I used was I used my knife on the zombies and saved my ammo for the bigger creatures. The knife is stronger in this game for a good reason.

The knife in RE4 is pretty awesome as well.
I hope they don't fuck up the Silent Hill movie...

Is there going to be a Silent Hill movie? I figured the game was too twisted to be made into a movie. I pretty sure it would be impossible to make it into a book series, there's no word to express what the monsters look like.

i wasnt meaning that novels area a waste of time. i said games are a wast of time. i was just saying that id rather read information than a novel. and if the information is written by an intelligent person, you can build your vocabulary there too

Alright, sorry then. But some video games aren't a waste, especially console RPGs with a good story. I basically only play RPGs and survival horror games these days...stuff that gives me a powerful story and attempts to scare me. Now, those online RPGs are a waste of time since they have no plot/point.
