Human evolution has stopped, and if not, reversed. The invention of new medicines and such have enabled weaker individuals to survive (while in a natural state they'd obviously die off). We now adapt our environments to our comfort instead of changing ourselves to survive in different environments. Like lets consider how the world would be without these miracle drugs, or VAST environmental distruction. The entire black race would most likely be non-existant as the gun-hoisting white populations whipe them out and enslave them. Native Americans: Gone to disease and warfare. Or back even further: Perhaps the Chinese who were always one step ahead would dominate the world. Who knows? Maybe people would eventually have like 3 arms and radially symetric instead of bilaterally to help them survive. The possibilities are endless. One single event could have changed our entire existenece.

It is sad because eventually (long time from now) this wil be a 3rd world world. The population grows and medicine advances. There wont be a enough room or food for everyone. I agree with the original post, natural selection is not nearly as applicable to humans as other animals. I can't really think of anything new to say on the subject, it is a well discussed topic these days.

And then with that we could probably keep population to a minimum so that resources arent spread thin. If most people killed themselves with drugs then we wouldnt have to worry about over-population.

Stephen Hawking is the greatest living scientist and probably in the top three greatest scientists of the 20th Century after Einstein and Planck. What is even more remarkable is that he is now in his 60's while the majority of people with Motor Neurone Disease can only expect to live to their mid-to-late 20's. Stephen Hawking has shown amazing genius amid the backdrop of fighting a crippling and debilitating disease - the guy has my utmost respect.
