They wasn't classified as that back in the day but yep, they're power metal. Anything with high pitched, womanly vocals in attempt to pass it off as evil or even manly is way to cheesy for my blood. I respect for what they did for metal, I just can't stand Bruce's voice. But if you want straight up metal, go with Pist-On.

I have a ton of respect for any old school metal, even if I don't like it. I remember when I was 10 or 11 my brother-in-law came over and he had new, back then it was new, Iron Maiden album and he played it for me. After it was done he asked me what I thought. I told him I'll stick with Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel. I guess I was right looking at how I am now. But he was the one who opened me up to underground metal, my sisters were the ones who are at fault for me for getting me started. A little Dustin history lesson.

I found it disturbing that Motley Crue was flashing at the top of the website.

I wouldnt say they are power metal. Power metal has like pianos and not womanly vocals, but actually guys who can sing. Not to say Vruce can't sing but listen to SYmphony X and Dream Theater. Thats power metal. Mecryful Fate/King Diamond sure as fuck are not power metal and listen to his voice, not that is a woman.
Note: I love Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, and Symphony X.

Whatever, the point is I've heard the way they sing and no matter how they sing or how the music sounds it's just it's way too cheesy to me. I thought it was funny ten years ago and I find it funny today.

Thats funny because you sound liek most people who get into my car and hear detah metal. "The music is good but I can't stand the vocals." I'll never let vocals stand in the way of good music.

It's not just the vocals, it's the whole scene. I think it's funny. I'm sorry if I see it a different way than you, but I just can't take Man O War, Helloween, Priest, King Diamond, Maiden, Dio, etc seriously. I've tried to listen to it at a younger age because I figured people wouldn't take me as serious "metalhead" if I didn't like the classics. But I couldn't listen to it with a straight face.
I like it if it's placed somewhere very within another genre of metal in a subtle way. Jim from Gardenian can do both death vocals and the high screams. And like in Borknagar and Mercenary, I can stand it because there's variety in the vocals styles along with it.

i see why youd say it was cheesy, but i love dickinsons vocals. and i think youre pretty far off to connect king diamond, iron maiden, and manowar. sure, they all have gay tendenacies, but theyre not the same kind of music

I wasn't comparing them musically, just I think they're all really cheesy '80s bands that a lot of metalheads seem to worship that I just can't stand.

Iron Maiden is cool. One of the first metal bands I heard. I think my favorite album is Brave New World, simply because its the one I own.

I was reading this metal history book and it called Iron Maiden and Priest Speed Metal. Power metal came later with bands like Blind Guardian, Manowar etc.

i love all that old shit! Preist and Maiden most though for the moment, but i dont see how you think Maiden is Power metal, or how Bruces voice is "womanly" or funny, but whatever, your opinion is your opinion...
EDIT: i like new stuff to, if any of you though i was stuck in a mental 1986 or something

I looooove oldschool metal and power metal But I'm not too keen on death metal
Maiden where, I think, the first metal band that I listened to and really liked.

I agree with most everything MyOwnSavior said, the oldschool shit gets wayyyyyyy to much credit.I'm somewhat of a maiden fan but most other old shit makes me want to vomit.I take black metal more serious than most of that.
