MLB
Whats your team? How are they doing?
I'm a Mets fan, they're on a 6/7 streak and are finally contending for the Wild Card.
Post scores of important games too
Atleast I know Chris will condone this thread. Anyway:
Mets 6, Dodgers 0
Diamondbacks 3, Braves 2
All I know is that the Nationals lost too, so twas a good day

I only watch it during the world series. My team used to be the Mariners when I actually watched MLB, but I stopped that years ago.

Obviously I'm a BoSox fan, they aren't doing nearly as well as I'd like. The starting rotation is suspect at this point, and the bullpen... well, we don't have to say the bullpen is suspect because we just know straight up that it's shitty. Here's why-
1. Embree sucked until a few weeks ago, they designated him for assignment just when he looked to have turned a corner.
2. Matt Mantei is a fragile little Mary girl. The problem with baseball these days is that you can get in on talent alone. Back in the day, you needed not only talent, but extreme durability. Nobody has extreme durability anymore except for a select few like two of my favorite guys, Mark Buehrle and Livan Hernandez.
3. Keith Foulke had been injured all year, and like a dumbass tried playing through it even though he shouldn't have. He could have had surgery either during the offseason or at the beginning of the season. He could have missed the first month and came back good. Instead, he sucked for three months, finally opts for surgery, and if we are lucky, we might get him back effectively for the final 6 weeks of the season.
4. John Halama is a douchebag. John Halama is a douchebag. John Halama is a douchebag.
Kevin Millar is having the worst season of his career. There was this big myth among casual fans that Millar had his career year in '03- wrong. Millar's best years were in Florida. What the fuck happened to his power this year? He was never a 30 home run kind of guy, but he sure was a 20-25 home run kind of guy. This year he doesn't even project to be a 10 home run guy, and frankly, I'm not satisfied with that regardless of how good of a clubhouse guy he is.
They really need to bat Varitek 5th in that lineup. Have Nixon bat 6th, occasionally trading places with Tek (and batting 5th when Mirabelli starts), and drop Millar to the 7 or 8 hole, depending on how Renteria looks. Have Mueller hit 2nd.
This is the lineup I'd like to see most frequently-
Damon
Mueller
Ortiz
Ramirez
Varitek
Nixon
Millar
Renteria
Graffanino/Cora
I also have a soft spot for the Blue Jays and Expos/Nationals for some inexplicable reason.

I also wanted to point out that this thread isn't going to do very well because the majority of our fellow metalheads are home confined mutants who fear fresh air and automatically ostracize anything that could be construed as excercise. They also automatically put down anything remotely athletic as a knee jerk reaction to being subjecting to countless swirlies and wedgies at the hands of high school jocks. Hopefully you're now prepared for the pointless onslaught of "sports r teh suk!" responses from the aforementioned pale, asthmatic, emaciated computer junkies who are so badly lacking a social life that they'll feel the need to lambast people who don't chain themselves to the couch in order to convince themselves their (respective) existence really was justified after all so they can put the gun down, despite the fact that they didn't have the guts to go through with it anyway.

Don't waste your time worrying about the Nationals, they are all smoke and mirrors and will bomb badly in the second half. Instead, worry about the Braves, a legitimate contender, as well as Phillie, who are a serious threat to put it all together and make a late season surge for the division or wildcard.

Thats would be a really good lineup to use. Do you think Millar was on steriods?

I just recently found out that the local radio station that carries the WEEI Red Sox live feed also carries a non-Sox game every Sunday night. As a result, I am currently enjoying a Cubs-Cards game that has gone into extra innings and... holy shit, Al Reyes just gave up a grand slam. I would have thought the Cards pull this out for sure- the team with the great pen beats the team with the awful pen in every game that goes to extra innings. There goes my logic.

No, I just think he sucks. I think people make too much of steroids and it's not nearly as big of a factor as people would think. You won't lose that much power from jumping off the juice, and I finally have proof in how Jason Giambi has done this year.
Guys in baseball use steroids more to help them overcome injuries and to improve their conditioning than they do to build muscle mass.

I have three teams that I love:
Chicago Cubs
Chicago White Sox
Boston Redsox
My only reason for liking the Whitesox is because of Frank Thomas, who went to college at my favorite uni,Auburn.I watched the Ws beat the Bosox 6-4 yesterday,Papi almost won it for Boston. The Cubs are my favorite overall, and not suprisingly, their mediocre at best. They are twelve games behing St. Louis
for first in the NL Central, and they have to win the division because the wild card winner will most definetley be from the NL East.

And Chris: Yea, I'm worried about Atlanta, they always seem to annihilate everyone the 2nd half. The Mets have usually been a 1st half team, but have seemed to kick into gear since the All Star break. They're about to start a series with Colorado (worst team in the NL, perhaps the entire league) so hopefully they'll pick up a bunch of wins. And the Nats are playing the Braves, so if they stalemate the series the Mets will be on top

Matt Clement hit right in the fucking head with a smoking line drive off the bat of Carl Crawford. I really, really hope everything is all right, and not just because the Sox need Matt Clement.

All tests came back negative, which I'm sure you know by now. That was fucking scary,it seemed like he was down for hours.
Atlanta is back in first place also, dammit.
EDIT:Greg Maddux got his 3,000th strikeout last night! The cubs lost 3-2 though......

The ChiSox could go .500 the next 6 weeks and still lead the AL Central. They will make the playoff without a doubt, I wouldn't worry about anything until then.
A great day for me as it relates to baseball. Red Sox win, Blue Jays win, Orioles lose, Yankees lose. Red Sox now up 2 full games over the Yankees and 4.5 over the O's. Jays are now tied for 3rd.
Unfortunately, we've lost Trot Nixon for at least a few weeks. Very bad news.

Toronto and NYY win, Baltimore loses. Toronto gain sole possession of 3rd place, NYY gains a half a game on the idle Red Sox, who start a 3 game series with Minnesota at Fenway tomorrow.
Despite Baltimore languishing lately, I'm more afraid of them than any other team in the AL east. Javy Lopez just got back. It's only a matter of time before they get their shit together. I fully expect them to make a sudden surge for the division or wildcard somewhere down the stretch.

They're not too great this year. It's more that the White sox are so good.

The Twins would be awesome this year if they had anything resembling a Major League offense.
On a different note, I personally find it very interesting that a last place team (NYM) has a better record than a first place team (SD). That amuses me a great deal. I am eagerly anticipating the moment that the Pads go under .500 so for the first time I can a first place team with a losing record. That would rule.

Another game blown in the 9th inning after a 2-0 lead.
Mets 2, Astros 3
This road skid is ruining the Mets' chance at the wildcard

And it's official. Pads are 51-52. Every team in the NL West is now under .500.

I'm not worried about Manny Ramirez being traded because it isn't going to happen. Not during the season, anyway. I guarantee Manny will still be with the Sox tomorrow morning.

I doubt the yankees will even make the playoffs...I doubt Mannys going to be traded either. Im sick of his shit about wanting to be traded, i wouldnt really care if they traded him, they could get some decent players.

Just in case anybody is wondering, our buddy Tranny here doesn't even watch baseball, which would explain this answer.
I can't even guess who will be making the playoffs, although a few teams, like the ChiSox and Cardinals are obvious enough. The rest could really be anyone.

Ryan Franklin just got busted, which surprises the hell out of me. That makes two big names outed in two days. I can't help but wonder if there are more big names coming out very, very soon.
As for Raffy Palmeiro, I'm very disappointed, but not really surprised. When you look at his career and realize that he started out his first few seasons as a scrawny little singles hitter, then suddenly gains mass and starts pounding home runs left and right, it's not hard to believe that he could have done them. I just didn't want to believe somebody like Raffy Palmeiro did. I'd hate to think a player that good who has such as nice attitude, such a friendly, intelligent, highly literate (which is even more impressive given English isn't his first langauge) man would be an offender.
People want to believe in Raphael Palmeiro. Unfortunately, we no longer can.

Hes the one in court that got all stern and said "I have never done steroids...PERIOD!" too. Pointing his finger and the whole lot in the process.
In other news, the Mets are 2 games out of the NL East Wildcard spot.

In all honesty, there is no way Giambi is back on the juice. A lot of people have pondered that possibility due to his sudden resurgance back to his older form, and rightfully so after this whole scandal, but Giambi had to deal with a pituitary tumor last year. Nobody who's had a cancer scare would ever go back on steroids, which greatly accelerate the growth of cancerous cells.

Chris, how do you think Manny and Edgar are after that slam last night? Manny was a little bloodied up.
Thanks to the Mets' lack of relief pitchers, they lost again last night due to 2 runs in the 9th. Thanks Looper

I'd look at every team Canseco was on, then look at the offensive streak of those teams. When Canseco joined Texas, a bunch of players bulked up and started smacking balls out of the park like crazy. So I'm sure wherever Canseco went, a trail of steroids is in his wake. Also, just look at players with contracts that are about to expire. They'd sure see the incentive of using steroids in order for a renewal of their big payday. Also, younger guys recently blasting out of the minors into the majors in startling rates. I'd look at those kind of guys instead of the "big stars."

Im an AL type of guy. How bout them Yankees!!!!!!! I don't think they will pass the redsox for the division. I think the national league team is going to win the world series. I just have a feeling.
St. Louis is kicking ass.

Haha, the redsox just kicked the yankees asses, 4 games up still.
Only 20 something games left in the season, this is getting interesting. Glad to see Ken Griffey Jr doing good again, but i think hes injured...again.

I think the season is turning out great seeing as how I'm a Cubs fan and the sox are sucking something fierce.

The only other team with as good of a balance between pitching, fielding, and hitting is Anaheim, and their bats won't compare to St. Louis. I still would consider the Angels the toughest team to draw in the first round, though. All the AL teams in contention are severely fucked up in one way or another. Red Sox and Yankees have the best and second best offense in baseball, respectively, but poor fielding and pitching won't see either of them advance too far in all likelihood. The White Sox have great pitching and fielding, but a dreadful offense that will find it hard to score runs off of good postseason pitching. The only thing that leaves me with faith in my Red Sox is the fact that every other potential playoff team is flawed just as badly as they are.
Well, except for Cleveland, but hopefully they don't even make the playoffs.

Explain what you mean by flawed. All lately I've been doing is keeping up with everyone records(once football season kicks up I neglect baseball till October),I've missed most injuries lately so I'm in the dark on what you mean.

It has little to do with injuries and everything to do with every AL team being either top heavy or bottom heavy, with a general lack of balance. The only definite exception is Cleveland, with Anaheim as another possibility. The rest of the AL needs to hope Cleveland miss the playoffs altogether in order for any of the other teams to stand a chance. It's amazing- all those mid 90's Cleveland teams couldn't get it done, and now this low payroll, young team is looking to be possibly the most dangerous team in all of the American League.

Shit .. I don't really follow it...I'm tooo busy!
But... I used to be a major SF Giants fan, because I grew up in SFO area. And went to ...I dunno a few games... I saw Willie McCovey play and that was pretty cool. And I saw Barry Bonds as a rookie, or at least first few seasons anyway. So, that's cool. I lived in Arizona when the Diamondbacks took the World Series and that was cool as fuck. One of the best series I have seen in my life (Who, besides the bosox wins 2, loses 3 and comes back to win the last 2? That's awesome! Did the bosox even do that? I think so...) Anyway, I now live in West Palm Beach, FL which is about an hour from Miami, which I guess makes me a Marlins fan, lol) Anyone wanna talk NFL?

Yeah the redsox were badass last year. I don't think any sox fans saw that coming. I really thought they were going to lose to the yankees during last playoffs. That's what happens after being a fan and watching them lose countless years before. .
Make an NFL thread if you want to talk about it, im sure people will post.
