I can record straight away, but being on dialup makes it much harder for me to get anywhere to host as it often times out or takes half an hour per riff.

I dunno about the whole riff writing aspect, im just begining to explore the worlds of writing. Im more working on my technique and skills first before i write. I like workin on sweeping and what not, scales, lead work. I still got some riffs up my sleeve.

Oh hell, they did a song at tabcrawler in the electric guitar forum that turned out really cool. Everyone signed up for an approximate timeslot and drums etc. were added behind them as they went along. They hit people's individual styles and even got a little reggae in it. It may not mean diddly squat to anyone else, but with the comraderie that's there it was pretty darn cool for members. It's one of the top threads there if anyone wants to check it out.
And the only reason I'm mentioning the site is because it's in lists here and I mention metaltabs there quite frequently. My 2 favorite sites.

I got a couple questions...
First, ...what genre or style of song are we wanting to create? Death? Thrash? Heavy Sound? Clean Sound? Are we sticking to any sort of theme for this first song?
Next, do we just submit a riff? Forge several riffs? Just come up with chords/progression? How are we dissecting this song up? Also, can the rhythm be layered? Like harmonized parts etc?
Also, can rhythm include any fills or licks within it or is that gonna be done at the lead level?

I'm glad to see someone interested.
The style is up to the rhythm guitarist. Just come up with a basic outline for a song. Thats all we are asking. Once that is done, and the drummer and bassist, and lead get their parts done (their parts are in relation to whatever the rhythm is) we'll go back and edit it and talk about fills and all that.

I'm gonna give it a shot, been working on some stuff. Are we voting on the complete rhythm for a song? I mean, what if we like a riff or so from one song and a couple from another, is that fair game when it comes voting time and what we think should move on?

I've just now got my beats down to riff to. God, writing music is tougher than I thought, well maybe not tougher, but definitely time consuming. I'm working dilligently on getting a complete song, but I still got a bit left, so considering the time frame here, just count me out on this one. I'll make sure to share it in my riffs and songs thread in the guitar forum once it's done. Plus, I only get 16 bit recording on my PC, and like DeathCS said, it will sound like shit if everyone else is running 24-bit or better.
