Favorite movie/book

What is your favorite movie, book, t.v show, cartoon?

I want to get to know people a little better. Do you like National Geographic shows? Do you like Cooking shows? Whatever, I just want to know (no favorite guitars or anything, just books, movies and stuff like that).

My favorite movies are: The War At Home, and Contact.

My favorite t.v. shows are: The Croc Hunter, and Whose line is it anyway?

Favorite book: The Beach by Alex Garland

I watched the whole series and i'm still mind-fucked. It's really hard to grasp the first time around. I'm gonna have to re-watch the entire thing maybe 1-2 more times before i really understand it all.

But it's really worth watching......it's fucking brilliant. This destroys any live-action movie i've ever seen.....it's probably my favorite movie/serie of all time. I order you to watch it all!

Katham you may be thinking of "Salt Lake City Punk", it's a movie about these punks around the 70's and 80's, at the end the main character's friend dies, maybe that's it.

Nope, I'm pretty sure, it wasn't that one...

It was in the UK, and none of Steve's friends died during the film.

Fight Club: heard nothing about this movie, thought it was a fight movie, saw it and then this fucking schizophrenia comes out. So it sucked. If i had known this before, perhaps i would have liked it.

@Euronymous
Gattaca is great. Nice view of the future for biological researches.

I like Johnny Got his Gun, but I gotta say I dont really like the lack of flow from the story to the socio-political rant. But that's just me.

And MetalPoldi, you didnt like Fight Club cause it surprised you? Shit, dude, that's why I did like it! I didnt see it for a long time cause it looked like a stupid movie, then finally I saw it and noticed that it was, you know, a little deeper than some pointless violence. Plus it showed a cool display of how Nietzche could be turned into Hitler.

And, finally, wannabe, Faulkner rules.

Yeah, there are a lot of breaks in the book that aren't easy to follow. The flowage isn't too good throghout parts of it.

I hated Fight Club. I think it's an idiotic, pointless, violent-tinged saga in which angst filled teens find some temporary relation with their ever-flowing testosterone and breif misanthropic pangs of the world. I saw no major breakthrough of a point at all. I saw at sheer violence which enthralls angry people and young 'ens.

I hope in the brevity of my statement, I have offended no one...

It´s a great movie in psychological point of view, but if you just want to see a lame violent movie, it´s annoying!!!
For this "Nietzsche-Hitler-relationship": I think i have to see it again. I just saw it once with the attitude:" Wooah, just a violent movie, where Brat Pitt gets his guts kicked out!!!"

memnoch, I'm saying it's based on idealogy, and how someone might take idealogy a little too far. It starts out with just Tyler and the unnamed narrator living life in this certain way, but it develops so that they end up putting this way of life on a large group of fanatical followers who try and force their ideas on the world. The Nietzche/Hitler relationship is just a "for instance".

wannabe, you do realize all the characters in that movie were in their 20's, right? I mean, would you call Meat Loaf a teenager?

The people in Fight Club are not teens, they are the losers of life.
You know, the everyday people who have done nothing
special with their lifes and do insignificant jobs, but
with Fight club can do something that counts, like destroy
all credit card accounts so noone ows to banks. It's not
just another movie that people fight! It has many meanings!
Almost in every scene you can find one(like when "they"
are driving a car and Tyler tells him to let go of the wheel)
Anyway,I think it's a great movie(the director is also great-also
did Seven-)

He also did The Game(with Michael Douglas I think).
His movies are kind of pessimistic and all the
scenery is decadent.

I think not. I think if it's anything, it's being fanatical about reality. He (well, in his mind) took fighting to the extremes and made a club of actually, realistically, beating the shit out of each other. It's more of an "escape from every day monotonous shit" movie. But he was a damn shcitzo so we don't know if all of that fighting actually took place...that's why it's fucked up, and I don't like it.

You called em teenagers dude, I only responded.

And, as for your interpretation, remember how, eventually, they start doing terrorist shit? That's what I was talking about. It's not just Fight Club, it becomes Project Mayhem. It looks like you're focusing mostly on the actual fight part and not paying attention to the rest of the movie.

Also, scizophrenia is slightly different from split personality disorder, and since he has the later and not the former, you can deduce that it's not that he made it up, just he saw some of it happening differently. Late in the movie they show him realizing that he had seen something differently than it had actually happened, not exactly the act of someone suffering from scizophrenia. You seem to be confusing it's ending with the one from American Psyco...

Lol. Don't spout the psuedo psycological teen bullshit...It's same thing for all practical purposes. Any way you look at it, he made the whole thing up in his head. If all the fighting did happen, he imagined somone else (Tyler) started it and countered upon its success. Project Mayem is still just a violent excuse at an attempt to show upscale boredom with monotony. "Reality's a bitch, look what can happen". Poorly chosen way of showing this point, imo. 'Cuase you, a teen (violent boy...j/k), loves it and starts to find some way of arguing good meaning out of it...

Ok, well maybe you really do see something. It's cool. But this will go nowhere. you will say something else trying to sound smart, and then I will counter trying to be smarter (which won't be hard...), etc etc etc......so it will be over now I guess.

So, what you're saying, wannabe, is that Marxism was born out people saying "reality's a bitch, look what could happen"? Interesting. Anyway, you're still ignoring the part where he sees what really happened, like when he sees some of the earlier scenes as they actually were(fighting himself, that he was the one making speaches, etc.), which means he didnt make it up. Once more, I invite you to discover the differences between scizophrenia and split personality disorder, cause you still dont seem to get them. And read the fuckin book. Fight Club, that is. It is a novel, too, you know, and, if you havent noticed, many novels cant run merely on violence, and this one is no exception. Read it and tell me there's no good theme.

And MetalPoldi, the thing about the ending of American Psycho is, it leaves you room for interpretation. Most people who hate it dont notice this. Did Pat really kill all those people, or is it just his imagination? That's where the movie is, it's not just a dumb slasher flick. There's no reason for it to be.

Wannabe's polishing the brass on the Titanic and its all goin down.

I love how these Favorite/best of/worst of threads start off on target and after a few posts actually turn into a discussion. God Bless America!! Woo hooo!!!

I'm not gonna get thick into the argument here but I did want to step in and put a word in of agreement with PST88/Jackson/Cousin It/Bateman's Bitch. Fight Club is everything and nothing at the same time, definately thought provoking and does in fact contain a central running theme....
