All About Fun
When I hear most Metal, the feeling I get is happiness and energy.
I'd have it no other way.
I often hear some of you guys talk about Varg and Buzrum and death and all that stuff and for the most part have no clue about any of that.
Well...I just read a huge article about the Varg dude and all the drama around him. I read about his fans and the odd things they do and Vargs antics in jail.
I dont get it...is this like people pretending to be Vikings and Lord Of The Rings type characters?
Do these people look in the mirror and say stuff like, "bwahaha I'm so sinister...I am deep and a mystery and no one understands me bla bla bla" ?
I read he makes entire albums of horrible keyboard sounds.....if he beat on cans for 70 minutes and recorded it , the assumption I get is the fans would buy that album too....because they dont really give a shit about the actual music....they care about the author.
Am I wrong?
Is this all in fun or taken way too seriously?

You will, when Varg rapes your pets and drinks the milk in the fridge straight out of the bottle.
B, I think you can answer this one for yourself. Think very hard then speculate wildly...

Varg should not speak for all of black metal, hes an idiot,a murderer, and a shitty musician.I used to love burzum, its some of the most atmospheric music you will ever hear, but it really gets old.On top of that his vox are terrible.

Bia, I think he was referring more to the order that you said the words in --if you care not... I didn't think of it so much as a Yoda thing. Just more poetic than --if you don't care. You know how guys are sometimes --just weird.

Oh dear. A thread about the small percentage of black metal fans that take the game too far, yet has the rising potential to turn into a "do you like black metal?" thread. Well, there's plenty of black metal debate in the bands forum. Search the threads. So I suppose this should stay on topic.
And with that said...who cares? Nothing against you, Bia. I understand your curiosity. Yet it's quite simple. Sometimes people are bad people. And sometimes those bad people tend to like a certain style of music. Of course, as we all can agree, it's not the music -- just those particular people (who happen to be fans). I'm not well educated on Burzum or Varg. So I can't say anything that I type has true meaning (as always).
All I know is that, damn it, murder and madness should be a happy thing from a happy place. Don't play black metal as you burn churches, rape pre-pubescent girls, and hack/beat your family to death in order to drive out the demons they hold within your house. Play fucking carnival music. Put on a smile. Enjoy it, damn it. Death and killing is a bright and happy place. Don't bring it down to a dark feeling with that damned metal music. All of these fucking goth teens are enjoying their homicidal rampages with such darkness. When the zombie apocalypse arrives, it will be a wonderful invasion of lovely corpses everywhere. Be happy, folks. Play some old 60's love songs, grab the nearest blunt object, and start swinging. Life and all of it's destruction is too sweet for these ignorant satanic worshipers of grimness.
Now dance with me as the prophesy of our deaths are fulfilled. la-di-da-di-da...
Side Note: This is some great acid.

Excellent point...and it is not my intent to start a BM debate...but to try and understand the overall attitude that seems to be labeled with the association.
Like I mentioned...Metal makes me feel good. Even when depressed, I choose to try and let the music lift me back instead of finding a tune that further drives me lower and lower.

I knew of a black metal band from Morocco (although I forget the name) so theres definately fans in the northern part of Africa. And the band Orphaned Land (although not really black metal, perhaps very few elements) uses references to Jewish (along with many other religions) stories on their album Mabool.

I went to an Amish black metal show once.
Even though they used coal-powered amps, it still sounded pretty cool. There was a girl in the band. She churned butter, making some sick and totally necro noises.

Omg, You guys are too much. There's a lot of Amish in south county here. That was great. Would they tear down pole barns instead of building them, too?
I think metal has a place happy or angry. I know when Bob would work out he'd have metal cranked up whether he was on his treadmill or out in the garage on the weight machine. That's how I heard so much when he was home. There's a method of working out that's positive controlled anger and certain types of metal can fuel that very well. I guess it depends on how the nature of the beast hits you.
Where's fbs? I'm curious if he does that since he's a fitness buff and has that menacing attitude so near and dear to our hearts.

Any time you don't want to hear an entire album or song, go to amazon.com or mp3.com and search the band. They have sound clips from many, many, many albums. That way, you can get a rough idea of "what they sound like" for any band. (and I think mp3.com has everything amazon has and so much more. so maybe just skip amazon.)

I figured I give an entire tune a listen. I have my P2P fired up and am getting some results back now....
Lost Wisdom, Key To The Gate, War, Dominus Sathanas all have multiple hits....the rest are being served by one person.
I'm going to give War a try.....
OK...did 3 tunes.
Personal opinion...kill the drummer and voaclist...replace them and I'd like it.
I hate to diss others but that drummer simply sucks ass. Same beat in all three tunes from beginning to end. Where are the changeups? Nothing worse than predicability IMO in Metal. One of the things that makes metal is a wickedass drummer that mixes it up. These guys might as well used a trained monkey.
The guitar and bass sounded pretty good together.....but it sounds like it was recorded in a tunnel.
Overall.....not as bad as I expected.
Those vocals though.......that kills everything to me.

I know and have heard of plenty of real Black Metal bands, not some Cradle of Filth or some shit like that. I have no problem if you like Black Metal, go ahead listen to them, just for me, I can't stand it.

Eh, I'm just fucking around. I like most black metal. It's just a matter of taste. Sometimes you've got to train yourself to like it.

I did kind of...except I still like black metal. Melodic death was sort of my stepping stone into black metal, then black metal into other things. I never really had that Korn stage

I had a Metallica phase...I can remember being in my dad's truck when I was 4 or 5 listening to the black album. Except I still listen to Metallica, just now it's branched out to Megadeth, Anthrax, and Testament.

No clue. I thought the vocalist was sick with something bad. And they've been through more members than Megadeth...you can see if they have and tour dates at www.testamentlegions.com

I had neither. I could never fucking stand Korn. Except for that song Alone I Break. Never loved it, but could stand it.
I used to listen to the typical shit that was on the radio and whatever was available to me. Once I got a hold of some Guns N Roses, though, all bets were off. That was some good shit, and still is.
