The movies kick ass i love the battle scenes in the movie the orcs kick

Battle scenes,the storyline,the actors.....everything about those movies kick ass.The books are way better though.

The movies bored me. I liked the books better.

I love them. The battle scenes and effects were great, the music was moody (I once got the soundtrack as a gift.. nice ) Everything has been designed with very much detail, just as I had pictured reading the books.
Well, it's kinda dissapointing to see so much of the original side-stories and lesser important characters missing (Tom Bombadil? The retaking of the Shire? etc.) But hey, they already had to cramm the book in a mere 9 hoursh of movie! At least it's nowhere near the dissapointment most book inspired movies become

Find the book "Bored of the Rings" and do a bit of research to find out some of the name references. I loaned that book 30 years ago and never got the darn thing back. Its a parody and crazy as heck.

Someone mentioned that thing a while back, so I went on Amazon and bought the sucker. Pretty funny, but haven't finished it yet. Makes for an excellent read in the john.

EDIT: I liked the movies, but the hobbits really ruined it for me with their constant bitching, moaning, and bullshit. I kept wishing for them to get killed, but to no avail. Unless, of course, they get killed in the third film, which I haven't seen yet.

I really liked just about everything in regards to LOTR... The books ARE better of course but I think they did a good job with the movies regardless. They picked a damn good looking elf, too. >:]

The movies are really good. Great presentation and cinemetography. Did drag on a bit, but that's tolkien's fault and not Peter Jackson. If you saw how much worse the movies could have been if it weren't for the exceptional talents working on it, you would respect this one more. I mean just look at some of the other book -> movie translations. Great stuff, rent it if you haven't seen em.

Yes. I read that when I was 11 after I had read the Lord of The Rings, Hobbit, and Silmarillion twice. I haven't been the same since. That book warped my fragile little mind and I loved it.

the books camparison to the movie is good enough, JR wasnt that good a writer in terms of style, its the imagination combined with a good knowledge of folklore and myth. and also you gotta factor in that he was writing for a younger audience, we arent talking about a literary masterpiece here, all a director has to do is stick to the plot, which jackson did pretty well

everyone knows the character development is a little sappy, the dialogue between the hobbits especially,<the books are far worst than the movies> but in this day and age we can be thankful for a least something slightly human to the characters to translate on film, unlike the matrix where everyone is deadpan stoic, wearing fancy leather jackets and fucking sunglasses miles underground. i hated the matrix, hated the new star wars,x-men was actually suprizingly good, but doesnt entirely save itself from the same symptoms of movies with special effects, style over substance,bad actors, even worst directors


the lord of the rings could of been alot worse, imagine if spielberg directed it,

star wars would of been alot cooler without dialogue,the entire trilogy that is, probably would of been much better films. also aliens vs predater shouldnt of had humans at all, and all the dialogue should of been the insect sounds from the creatures without translation.

my roomate said he wants to edit the first lord of the rings to end when frodo gets stabbed by the ogre thing in the mine of moria part, right when frodo passes out after being speared it would go staight to the credits end of film. then yeah, let people borrow the movie

I like to watch the movies only to laugh at all the imperfections. For example, in the scene where Aragorn turns and runs in the direction of fallen Boromir after slaying the leader of the Orc, you get to see a dead Orc lift his head off the ground. Also little stuff, like, you can tell a scene was dubbed over because at the beginning of the scene Frodo had a wet tear down his face, and later on you see a tear running down a dry face. When Gandalf is talking to Frodo in the Mines, that was also done with a ton of editing because the scenes where you glimse the side of Gandalf's head of hair...it's not moving in time with the speech.

stuff like that. haha, stupid Hollywood. They also use wayyyy to much emotion in the movies. Like in the Mines when they all loo at Frodo when he is "stabbed".....Jesus that's ridiculous.
