Alot of people don't think I am as good as I think I am. I am proud that I can play guitar how I do, and if others don't think that what I am doing is hard, cool. I like it, and I think I kick ass at the fucking guitar.

It's a favorite of mine, however some might think it sucks. All notes are speed picked. There are other ways to get those same notes obviously, the second half of the riff can all be found closer to the tenth fret. There is no reason for me to go all the way to the 1st fret on a when I could get the same note on 6 on E.

That is how it came out when we were jamming though, I just played it and that is the exact way I played it the first time.

i think i canplay ok su times, i have my mo0ments sometimes i cant play shit sometimes some hard stuff comes easy, but i still suck at guitar, i mean ive been playing for almost 3 years, and lots of GOOD guitarists told me that ine can only play guitar after say 10 20 years before it starts to work out, so i guess i have a long road to go.

on the other hand, i think most guys think they suckat guitar, wich is good cuz then u swill try and practice to get better, improve skills and techniques etc

Out of all the instruments I have tried to play, vocals are the most enjoyable. Anything from shrieks and other frosty kvlt outhouse production stuff to trying to mimic dave mustaine note for note, and when I play the live stuff and try to do this I fail miserably. He has a strange voice, I like it.

I think I am becoming good at the guitar, having spent hours and hours every single day for quite some time now. I am nothing like, you know, Dave murray, but I whoop the shit out of alot of those black metaller shithole guitarists from bands like Ildjarn and darkthrone. I like those bands but they were never good at playing their instruments.

Then again its black metal, why do people even try to get a black metal tone? What tone? That tone is cheap equipment and heroin addicts who don't give a fuck. I am doubtful that true black metal guitarists care about tone. And by black metal, I don't mean anything like Immortal, or Satyricon, Emperor, Old Mans child....

Im not very good at guitar. ive never really said i was either. i cant play solos for shit. but i do happen to be fond of quite a lot of my riffs. thats what really matters to me anyway. ive never understood people who drool over musicians simply because their solos are fast or difficult. the real talent is in writing those really great riffs that just blow minds. if you disagree, i dont care. i play lots of tremolo, its just my style. i do lots of palm mutes too. i actually fealt a little urge to tab one of my riffs on here, but i know for a fact that anyone attempting to play it would have the pace all wrong, and they would be changing it into something completely different from my riff. when i have some of my stuff recorded i will glady share it here though.

I've never lied about my guitar or bass accomplishments (at least I don't recall a lie). I picked up the guitar in 2000. The odd thing is, I can kick out some okay solo's, but I improvise throughout the whole thing. Besides a few "tricks" or "licks", I've never memorized a solo. But as far as complicated riffing goes, I can be pretty good at that. I wouldn't broast about my playing, because I'm sure plenty of you could play better than myself. Yet I still can be quite a "technical" or advanced player -- when I feel the need for it.
So in a simple answer to the shredding question: No, by most standards of "shredding", I can't do that shit.

I'm not bad, my rhythm is good, but my soloing is shitty (some easy metallica solos). Considering I have been playing for 6 years I am pretty poor, although I havent had lessons for 4 years now, and I've only really started learning songs that I can't pick up in 10mins over the past year.
Basically I didn't push myself for a 2-3 year period, I was playing stuff like superjoint ritual....

I have been playing for around 7 years now on and off. And I didn't learn how to solo until october of 2003. So that is around a year and a half ago. And I have posted my songs, here, and would whole heartedly say that I think that the solo in my song funeral moon in the valley is a decent solo that deserves credit. I also think that my guitar skills surpass many of the guitarists I listen to, and many of my favorite guitarists in general. Varg for instance, he wrote some of my favorite riffs, but I hate playing them due to the simplistic nature. It is so easy, so mundane, I have no need to remunerate myself though.

Since I haven't actually gotten onto a real stage yet, and played in front of large crowds. I would say I suck at making my band play tight together, and I suck at being the person who organizes everything. But as a guitarist/vocalist, I do indeed shred proper.

Soloing is all an extension of a guitarists raw essence. Someone can say they learned a solo perfectly from whatever band, and it doesnt matter. They didn't get any better at soloing from the heart, and that is what really matters. Playing solos of your own. I spent probably the better part of last summer doing illicit substances which would result in an increased amount of energy, a violent temper, and above all things insomnia. So since I couldnt sleep, I learned as many solos as I could. And what did I get better at? Playing megadeth/Maiden solos. And I never even play them anymore. I guess I got better at accuracy, and did gain from it some way though.

I did not however get better at soloing to my own songs. My thing with soloing is learning how to use the modes of scales properly. I am not too big on proper college theory. I like to just learn scales for guitar, and rudiments for drums and take it from there.

So basically, you'll do good if you want to do good.

I've been playing for 20 years now and I am proud of all the songs I have written but I'm sure you'll agree that my best ones are Liege Of Inveracity, Pierced From Within and Jesus Wept. I get kids coming up to me saying how awesome I am but I'm not into believing all that hype. I just go home and keep practising - maybe even come up with a riff or two. Keep practising kids and stay away from drugs.

I have performed some really hard shit on stage, that I would struggle with. But my stage is a fucking basement, and the myriad of people who show up just bang their heads. I agree, you need to be able to play your songs in your sleep if you plan to play them at a large venue.

Not me. I write hard riffs, that I know are hard. I just practice them alot. Do you think Dave Mustaine was just like"oh this is how I'm gonna sing and play Poison was the Cure!"

Then again I suck compared to Mustaine, regardless of what my friends say, they are just ignorant and do not know how hard being a musician is.

it depends... alot of shit i stumble upon by just wanking around, "the easy stuff"...
but the "insane" shit is often created by me challenging myself.

i.e. it starts with an idea or a concept. like "i'm going to write a cool chromatic riff in 5/4 timing, where i'm jumping strings and hitting a pinch harmonic every 4 beats, creating a poly-rythem". i then adjust myself to that time signature(harder than it sounds some times) and slowly pluck a series of notes in an order and rythmic pattern that i think sounds good(also fairly hard sometimes).. then i play it over and over until i can play it clean, then i start adding in the pinch harmonics, and practice that... then i try and play it faster and faster...

the result. some fucked up shit that would have been impossible for me to just stumble upon by goofing off.
