Ahh, okay. I really have little idea of what the issue at hand is -I try to stay away from televisions, newspapers, and the like- so I have nothing to offer.

I deal with this by changing the channel when this shit pops up on the news when all my innocent ass is doing is trying to catch the goddamn motherfucking weather. I'm also sick of having to sit through American Idol recaps before the weather, but I digress. Seems somewhat ammusing that the government in america wants to spend money on everything they possibly can. I would think that after their spending on the "War on terror" in Afganistan and Iraq, as well as the money that the government had to pay to clean up their own country after terrorists struck that, money would be tight, so they would want to stop paying for people such as this to stop being a part of their spending.

The magnitute of money that the American government has access to is ASTOUNDING. This article outlines that America has a Tax Gap (difference between moeny that should be collected and money that is actually collected of 311 billion dollars in 2001. From what I read, this money is simply reguarded as lost money.

This Article analyses the 2006 US defensive budget. It states that the bush administration plans to spend just under $50 billion on homeland security. That is roughly one quarter of the GDP of Australia for the December 2004 quarter.

Now with the pure scale of Income here, how can they be worried that one person whom has no chance of becoming better might affect their fedral budget?

Essentially, I think this is probably more of a human rights issue, rending all the shit i posted above, irrelivent. This comes down to the question of weather they can force somebody to live. Generally laws are placed to steer people's behavior in specific directions to a commonly acceptable standard. I specifically use the phrase steer, because I believe that life is made up of choices, and that any choice can be followed, provided you are willing to accept the concequences.

I don't know what the specifics of this case are, but from what I can tell - somebody successfully won a case in the US to perfom Youthenasia upon somebody. I think that if the man needs to brethe through a tube then he can't do much for himself, let alone provide some valuable use to society. To be a part of a society, a person should at least have to potential to provide a serivece to the said society. For instance young people have the potential to provide future production, adults heir children for future production, whisle producing themselves, and the elderly provide experience. Spmbody whom doesn't like the society in which they live will move somewhere that they think they can exist better. So if someone believes that they are no use to a society and wants to sacrifice themselves for the good of this society (im sure the said person is being looked after by somebody, and they are getting moeny from the government in the for of some kind of disability pension) then why should they be forced to continue living in the society. Think of how herds of animals live in the plains of africa, when one of the animals becomes sick and weak they are eaten. Then the herd as a whole can mkove faster because the weakest of the herd has been removed from them. 100 years ago we didn't have the ability to keep people alive in the manner in which we do now. The church was more powerful then aswell, and inovation as well as the industrial revolution were booming. People were dieing at a content old age of 60, people whom contracted a terminal illness were not kept alive, but rather, done what was posible and then left to die. How should now be any different?

Oh, and we won't ever resolve our separation of church and state problems because of a question of semantics: Off the top of my head, the line in question goes 'Congress shall pass no law respecting the establishment of religion.' Now, this wording allows Christians to prevaricate, claiming that there's a difference between specifically making a law giving preference to such-and-such a religious belief and making a law based on the lawgiver's (religious) beliefs. So, in answer to your question: Never, dammit.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that, last I checked (Friday, in the airport, CNN's endless loop), in any case, the law's so far let the husband take out the tube regardless of her parents' beliefs, and they've been trying futilely to get his custodianship revoked. The husband says it was his wife's wish that should she ever be in a vegtative state that her life not be prolonged. He agrees with her doctors that she is.

The parents have seen what they see as her responses to stimuli as her having some mental capabilities. Whether this has anything to do with religion I've not heard mentioned and I've heard about all CNN has to offer about the situation.

If it's the Christian belief they're concerned about the Bible says that a man leaves his mother and a woman her home to become one with each other. I would say that would diminish their say in the matter.

The husband has already refused substancial amounts of money to keep her alive. I think he has her interest in mind, but it's probably hard for him to have to make a decision like that. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes having hope in one hand like her parents do and almost certainty per doctors' words that there is no hope.

If Denny or I are ever in that state we do not want to be supported that way. I don't know if there was one but I'm assuming there was no living will. If a living will had been drafted prior, I don't think this would have been made as public as it has been.

And it's kind of irritating to hear the bias of the Christian religions as much as there is the Muslims. There are some Christians (Christian Scientist) who don't go to doctors at all so she would have died long ago. I've known families that had MS passed generation to generation and due to their religious beliefs there was a person ended up in a wheelchair that could have been helped. Catholic's are Christians and I don't agree with a lot of their ideas. Just because one believes something one way doesn't mean we ALL do. I'm not really bitching, but stating a point.

I've been distraught lately, it seems as though our government is ascending to a new echelon of idiotic things to concern themselves with. Now, I like baseball, but why in the world would our SUPREME COURT spend an entire 11 hours discussing who did or didn't use steroids? What avail did our nation come to by making Mark McGuire look like an idiot? Who really cares so much about 1 person in a vegetative state? The Steroid Congressional Hearings is really quite simple- free publicity. These politicians need publicity to get re-elected. So what do they do? They try to make themselves come off as hardasses against those villainous MLB weasels. They want to look like heroes who are enforcing justice. They are doing this under the guise that since children emulate these athletes, steroid use among high-school athletes is a huge problem.

It isn't. It's a problem, for sure, but hardly a huge problem. No, a huge problem is when I see these fucking 16 year old girls getting hooked on heroin and crack. Let's convene a congressional hearing for that. Stupid fucking assholes.

This doesn't even mention the fact that human growth hormone and amphetamines are both bigger problems than steroids in MLB and professional sports as well as with the children these legislative heroes are suppossedly trying to protect.

Human growth hormone in the MLB? Doesn't HGH lose its affect once a certain vertebrate settles into its place? I'd think HGH would be primarily a problem among younger kids trying to enhance their abilities. Anyway, I think the "bad influence on the kids" excuse is just an attempt to vindicate the trial. Not for the purpose adults would be using HGH for. HGH as used legally and responsibly on children is generally to help slow-growing children attain a normal height level by inducing growth. HGH does a hell of lot more than that, though, and is frequently used by adults.
