i suggested lute, but its the wrong neck width and headstock...

I still think its just a classical guitar without the ''traditional" shape

It's from Pain of Salvation's "Be" DVD that I am about to shit my pants over waiting for. Your favorite band releasing a DVD is extremely exciting.

It looks like the classical predecessor of the guitar... can't think of the name, but it might be mandolin as some guy suggested.

Fret count means nothing, but I'm not sure how many other instruments have 6 strings.

Lute's have no hole in the body, and they have no headstocks, usually. Mandolins only have 4 strings, so it's no mandolin. Mandolins are closer in sound to acoustic basses, but with a deeper sound and [I think] a leather pick is used. I've heard of a banjo-lute, but I think those only have 4 strings as well, or five. From the picture, that instrument looks like it has 6 or something....Hmmmthat might be what it is....that instrument in that picture looks like it has 5 strings, so that could be it..

Mandolins do not have a deep sound. I can play mine with a guitar pick, no special pick is needed, either.

Hmm, is that sixstrings he's got on there? If so, it is a mandolin, only a different type: "mandolino" or "baroque mandolin" I think they're called.

Could it be one of these only with 6 strings?
http://www.fredwalser.com/images/tr...bazookie650.jpg

I asked a friend up in Newfoundland that's a very musical young lady and she said it might be one of these. They're Greek in origin. She said some have 6 strings and some special models have 8. They can be finger-picked or strummed and sound similar to a guitar only a bit higher.

I was thinking that you might look at the traditional instruments from Sweden where they're from and maybe that might be a clue, but it sounds like she knows what she's talking about. She's in the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and also sings ina choir up there.

Hope that helps or at least helps you research it more.

Oh yeah, it's called a bazookie.

The neck looks too thin to be one of them...and the fret count is different, the bouzouki has several more

Nope, that's a saz. They have the frethole in the end, not the front.

Big kiss for Kalmahswamp. Mystery solved sounds like.( another bad sentence but my grandpa was Pa. Dutch and they talk like that sometimes.) I'm sure Pande' will be thrilled to know.

I was watching tv today and this German guy was playing this dbl. neck acoustic, I didn't know such things existed. The bottom was a classical guitar and the top was this weird thing where it had like 10 strings on it, I don't know what the hell it was.
