Doesn't anyone else find 'metal' a suitable term for all these bands to fall under?

There were so many other types left out, and I think that should tell us something. I think there was a thread concerning how death metal was percieved, and how some bands who were categorized as just that, never wrote any lyrics related to death.

People call us 'metalheads', but never 'deathmetalheads' or 'blackmetalheads'. I'm rambling and that needed to be mentioned for no reason.......

I voted power metal, and I like this poll anyway, and categorizing metal bands isn't that big of a deal I guess.

Thrash definetly first. Then Stoner Metal (or rock..whatever you call it. Then Doom metal (preferably traditional, as I am not into that noise stuff). I am recently getting back into death metal, but only the older stuff. I don't dig the new stuff. If I fully get back into it, Stoner metal and Death would be tied. I still do listen to doom metal alot though....

Stoner rock I think is basically 70's doom metal, which is quite a bit mellower than modern doom metal.

So eh, what's good viking metal....other than Twin Obscenity which I like.

Borknagar, Thyrfing, Einherjer, older Enslaved, Falkenbach, old Bathory.
Amon Amarth are considerd viking too, altough their more lyricly viking than musicly.

I put death metal and something other because there was no grindcore up there, and I probably listen to that the most. I listen to everything pretty random as far as metal anyways, but I probably listen to death metal more than most.

I listen to death and thrash hours each day. Looking through my CD collection, it's probably about 80% death/thrash, but don't get your hopes up thinking I'm going to count each CD, then each death/thrash CD, and then divide to get an actual percentage. That's poppycock, not to be confused with what I put up your mother's ass this morning, which is just my cock.

I also listen to prog metal (Fates Warning, anybody?) and a little black metal (Emperor frequently, Bathory, Mayhem, etc. occasionally). For the record, all the supposed 'Viking' metal I've heard is either black or death metal. I wish people would stop arbitrarily creating new, useless categories for shit we already have names for. I also want to put my evil inside of each and every one of you, but that's another topic entirely, cunts.

wow. anybody in here who doesn't listen to death? I personally can't stand it. I checked out Dying Fetus cause they have a cool name, and I wasn't impressed. I like a lot of thiese death bands' riffs, but the singing, (or lack thereoff), just turns me off. Anyways, just thought I'd share that with the group. I don't wanna go on and on about how I hate death, cause you guys will flame the living shit out of me.
I respect everyone's tastes, though, so if it's Death Metal you like, than rock the fuck on. I'm more into old school stuff. NWOBHM shit. Diamond Head, for example. I also like Metallica, (their first five albums, and parts of load), Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Dream Theater, Iced Earth, Deep Purple, shit like that. Therefore, I choose Thrash, NWOBHM, and Power Metal.
