damn! three years already. it seems like just yesterday i heard the bad news. i was listening to symbolic and The sound... the other day. "the sound" makes me sad, especially Voice of the soul, becuase it is such an emotional peice from chuck. really, i can hardly think of few others who express quite such emotion through notes as chuck did. What a legend.

Oh, so theres a thread for this. How appropriate. Chuck Schuldiner was the reason I like metal. Death was the first "non-mainstream" metal band I heard, even before Slayer. I remember when he died, myself and two mates played death all day before listening to death all night. It was so sad.

To me, Chuck Schuldiner is the definition of metal.

RIP Chuck, we will never forget what you did for metal.

in metal chuck was/is the most influencial. he really let his soul come out and fly with every note he picked, weather the lightning fast soloing notes or the long sustained bends. voice of the soul is one of the best songs ever. its so hard to have a fav band these days, but death is definitally there to take the spot.

I started listening to death even when i was still in my Nu-metal phase, back in '99, his music dragged from there and into the music i love now. Chuck is my primary influence in my playing, and everything he ever wrote is a testament to the level of greatness he achieved. Forever with me, and all true metal heads, Chuck.

Which is fair enough for him, but you don't love music if 99% of it fails for you, and should probably turn to criticism of something else (his social commentary, while in my opinion overly ethnocentric, has a lot of good points to balance out the fuckheadedness, unlike most of his metal criticism). Or harass a mother that just lost her son to cancer about little nitpicks like where the cross on a 't' is; they're both good options.

If you knew the context of that picture you'd know it isn't a compliment.

In any case, it's not good if anybody treats Chuck like Jesus, since that will make you lose sight of who and what Chuck was. Unfortunately there is a tendency towards treating him as something other than what he was, when what he actually was is more than enough.
