it's funny. back in the 70's my dad used to own Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Judas Priest and Motorhead albums, among others. he was, at the time, what we call a metalhead. a good metal fan.

I used to think about this stuff. Then not only did i listen to metal all the time. I started playing it. The possibility of stopping totally erased from my mind. My mom used to say that its a phase. That was back in 9th grade. Then in 11th grade i told her "pretty long "phase" huh". now its 10x worse/better, and i love it more than ever. I play it better now more than ever, naturally. I think ive already "mellowed" out and still listen as hard of stuff i used to at the same time. I didnt listen to classical or new age a few years ago when i liked death metal. I guess black metal got me into classical and stuff... definately. I still dont understand why many of our parents used to listen to much harder stuff than they do now. My mom used to like rock. I actually remember when she changed to country. all of the sudden she started putting on the country station. I was about 6 or 7, im surprised i remember.

I'd be very surprised if I stopped listening to it completely. I've always listened to anything you'd care to name, but it keeps getting reflected back to my appreciation for metal. It's a very, very synthetic genre; the more you get into it the more you find virtually every other style being played along with it. That said, I doubt I'll be on the lookout for underground bands 20 years from now like I am now. My taste will no doubt mellow and refine (they have already thus far. Maybe not mellow, but refine), but I really can't imagine losing it completely.

Sometimes I find that I just can't listen to a certain artist at the time, and have to put on a doom or goth metal CD. Does that mean I've mellowed out? Hell no. An hour later I will trow on the CD I couldn't listen to before.Country shits me. I didn't mellow out yet, I'm in the middle of "hardening up" since I'm still discovering metal (less than 7 months of knowing metal for me). I did see some people mellow out, like my friend's mom, she used to be a Maiden fan in her day and saw them live when she was 14, but now she listens to easy listening stuff, but I don't see myself doing that (She likes the later Carcass though). Also, I have a set of metal songs I want played at my funeral so everyone can remember their crazy granny (that is if I ever become a mom or a granny).

I have about 160 cd's, and about 80 of them are metal, I'm not going to let it go to waste definetly, and metal isn't something I listen to because of energy and anger, it's more of that I like the music, and it entertains me, I like the environment of it. Just because I become more mellow and old doesn't mean I'm gonna think it's childish and put it away. Yet there are times in which I listen to it for energy purposes, but that's not the only thing.

I've noticed this since I was 19 or so, for the last two years I've been listening to a LOT of different stuff, classic rock, blues, rock, you name it. I play it too just to learn from it. I can listen to basically everything, when I'm half passed out I'll even listen to drum'n'bass or that kinda shit. can't stand R&B though.
Ofcourse I still listen to metal/metalcore primairily but I've noticed some changes, I'm sure I'll listen to more laid back stuff when I'm older, but I will still pull out good old Cowboys from Hell every now and then to piss off my wife!!

I agree with all the people that it will fade out partly. Metal will probably be like 50% of what I listen to in the future instead of 85%. My friend's dad use to go see Priest and Maiden all the time but now he listens to stuff like Pink Floyd and U2. However, he did go see GWAR and Dying Fetus last week so there's still traces of it there.

The older I get, the more into Deathmetal I become-so no. I seem to become more of a metalhead with age, so the idea that I can grow away from it is ridiculous.

I'd agree that 80% of metal is about anger, but I don't think that, as a genre, it's any angrier than blues, jazz, or classical. It just wrote itself into a corner, lyrically, and it's slowly writing its way out. But the music isn't always angry in and of itself, and a look at the community shows an almost endless exchange of positive emotion. The interview with Muhammed Suiçmez that Transient pointed out (http://www.maelstrom.nu/ezine/inter...1a0dc52c15c&osC) makes a good point of that. But yeah, as far as an analysis of lyrical content can take you, there's nothing to it but anger.

Actualy, that same week I threw that party. My mother wanted to invite him, but then it was kinda hard for me to just plainly say I didn't want anything to do with the fucker.

When he came at the party, an speedhead 'friend' of my mom (they actualy organized this party for me) asked him for some speed or coke and he went to get some from his own stash. When he came back, it all went downhill. The teacher threatend to kill the speedhead n'stuff, and he threatend half of my friends at the party. We kinda convinced him to leave peacfully, but in short time he told me that his 'hells angel gang buddys' wrote a letter that they were going to kill the speedhead. He showed me the letter (it was written in PINK CRAYONS!!! ).
He was very paraniod, as he called and threatened my mother he would kill the speedhead because he and his speedhead buddys didn't leave him alone because they wanted his stuff, but thats kinda impossible since the bloke lives halfway across the country.

To make a long story short, my guitar 'teacher' was psychotic, pedophile, a speedhead and paranoid. That didn't show until the last month or so..
