Metal Slug
I don't know if any of you have ever played this, its usually on one of those machines where you choose from 1 of 4 games, the local arcade with the only machine ive been able to find within a reasonable distance just got shut down, the arcade closed. If anyone has found a working emulator/rom combination to play any of the metal slug games, let me know, I would really appreciate it.

Get the MAME emulator. It runs via console (command prompt) on a PC, no GUI. Which means you'll have to be proficient with DOS to be able to use it. Should be able to get it at www.zophar.net. If you can't use the MAME emulator, get another one.
Then goto www.romnation.net, and goto the MAME roms. You can download the Metal Slug ROM there, it is around 75 MB.

You need to goto the directory MAME creates when you unzip it. There should be a sub-directory in there. "roms" it should be called. In that folder, create another folder named after the ROM. You need to check which version of the ROM you have. Just put "mamepp mslug" in the DOS prompt, and it should give you a list of the compatible games starting with those letters. You would have probably downloaded the ~70 MB one, which means you create a folder under "roms", call it "mslug3", and unzip all the files into that. Then enter what you did above, the first time. It should run.

Well, I don't know. Every MAME rom I've ever downloaded has worked for me. You're trying to run the wrong version, probably. My assistance ends here.
