Went back to drinking a lot of Wells Bombardier after abandoning it for a while. I remember saying it was my favourite beer a while ago, and drinking it again it still is. I'm really shit at describing/detecting flavours in beer, but I know what feels/tastes right to me, and Bombardier gets top marks all round.

yea...this store is kinda shitty like that. they have a great selection and all..and i guess i can't expect them to know everything about beer since it is mostly wine there..but i don't know how much more of it i can take. at least i bought other beer and some cider that they almost can't fuck up..unless of course they sat their shaking the shit out of it for a minute... drinking some woodchuck granny smith cider.

moe: If I was you, dont pay cheap for a cabernet SAUVIGNION.....if your budget is limited, I suggest you Gran torres, spanish wine, and really good, here it's 15$, but in USA you will prolly be able to find some cheaper!

loz. today, i browsed the liquor store.

i was looking for vodka thats distilled from potatoes. i was surprised to find what i wanted, under the name of Vikingfjord vodka! its from Norway. and the label reads:

I'm a big beer drinker though, I love beer. I'm buying 24 Carling tomorrow (a shitty Canadian beer, but then again, most Canadian beers aren't great) and will likely polish them off before we go out later in the night. As for my favourite beers:

Sleemans Honey Brown
Carlsberg (authentic Danish Carlsberg, not the North American brewed ones)
Gosser (again, authentic Gosser)
The Belgians, Germans, Brits, Austrians, they all brew really good beer. Anything you can get yours hands on from that region is usually good stuff.

Rye and ginger ale is indeed a great drink..but gross on your 24 of Carling.

Edit - There are many good Canadian beers, just on a smaller production scale. Check out some Ontario Microbrews.

you can find recipes online..i'll have to check some of my bookmarks when i get home from work to see if i know of any. you can usually buy a kit with all the shit you need to get started..with or without the actual ingredients..but the kits come with a book that explains how to do it and should come with a basic starter recipe and probably a few more advanced ones as well.

on the front page there is a complete kit for $92. it lists each component and that is all you need besides yeast, sugar, malt, hops, and whatever else you want to use. that is one cool think about making beer at home..you can add whatever the hell you want pretty much.

edit..i forget if someone posted the link to this book about brewing ..but i have the pdf version if any of you want it. try to only ask for it if you intend to use it so i don't have to email it to all of you bastards. i guess i could just find the link because i think the whole thing is available for free online somewhere.

well i was reading some favorite beer thread on another website and someone mentioned the rogue xs series...theres a barleywine style ale, imperial stout, and an imperial pale ale.. i've been eying the imperial stout for a while now, but it was $11.99 a bottle, so i didn't ever buy it. it is a decent sized bottle though. anyway..it got me to thinking that i plan on buying at least one some day..so why not today?

when i started pouring it...i could smell chocolate. the head disappeared almost completely..but it looks like i'm in for some good lacing. if you can read the bottle in the pic..its 11% ABV and the bottle is 1pt and 10fl oz or 750ml for everyone but us americans. the bottle has one of those locking rubber stoppers attached to the bottle to reseal it. i think a few of the dollars tacked in the price are just for packaging.

anyway...the beer. can't see through it at all..even with a flashlight behind the glass. smells very good. doesn't seem to have as much chocolate as i could smell while pouring it. can still smell it though. nice roasted malt smell too. seems at the end you can smell the alcohol a bit. almost smells a little nutty too.

mmm tastes pretty damn good. initially it tastes like unsweetened chocolate with a little bit of coffee. a tiny bit of sweetness that gives way to the roasted malt flavor with some alcohol warmth. this stuff would probably kick ass in the winter..if only we had that thing called winter here in florida. well i was wrong about the lacing. not really any. pretty dry at the end...leaves me wanting to take another sip. even some bitterness at the end...hops maybe? no real distinct hop flavor that i can tell..but maybe they are just subtle enough to make it bitter without taking over.

all in all pretty fucking good! i would buy this shit a lot if it weren't for the price tag. i'll likely stick with the shakespeare stout since it is pretty much as good and less than half the price. it has been a little while since i had a shakespeare stout though..i'll have to try another one..this IS is threatening the SSs place as my favorite rogue beer.

tonight i had a majority of stoudts gold lager. "munich style helles" normally i don't by lagers..but it was hot as shit today and i had never seen this stuff before. i figured two things..i've liked other stoudts beers, and i thought since i was grilling outside i'd try drinking a more "summer" type of beer while outside. good stuff though. i can see why i like ales more while drinking the beer..but it is still good. had a bottle of the czar...an imperial stout from avery brewing co. damn good! expensive..the main reason i hadn't tried it up until now...but its fucking delicious. i liked the rogue from yesterday or the day before better though.

trans - if you know of a good beer store in your area, you should be able to buy unibroue beers pretty much all year long. in other words..you don't necessarily have to save them for a special occasion. i would not drink them all really quick though until you are sure you can get more of them. but you can always save them regardless. no need to rush either. i just love trying new beers and lack patience in that regard.

Tonight was pretty cool. I purchased some nice domestic brews....Shiner Blonde. Pretty delicious and nicely priced. It was 11 bucks for a 12 pack. We then went to a party where a hardcore band played and they had 2 kegs. I "moshed" for a little with about 6 people. It was fun....just a buncha sweaty dudes jumpin up and down. Some dude whipped out his penis and I thought that was hilarious. Now, I'm drinkin the champagne that I started on...

the portsmouth lager is pretty good. BA calls it a vienna lager. its got a warm taste and a nice after taste but its kinda bitter

haha nice! i've never tried any of their beers before..haven't seen them on sale down here. florida has some weird laws we can't get a number of beers other states can..also i've noticed some beers on sale on the other coast of florida..but not this coast. two of them being some very tasty stouts that i would love to have constant access to.

I took back the 2006 Chimay Blue 750ml I gave to my dad for Father's day and I drank it, as well as 2 bombers of Propeller IPA, and a few fridge beer my mom gave me. lol, I wasn't going to open the Chimay because I'm broke as a joke. Hopefully I'll find some more 2006 vintage around, although I've only seen 2007 around in stores lately..

It was damn good though, it ages very well under the proper conditions.
