i just got home from spending a few days in sebring, florida for the 55th annual 12 hours of sebring. this race has been one of the highlights of my year for the past 5 years now, and i already have plans on being there next year!

we (one of my roommates and i) got a late and missed the vintage race and the speed world challenge touring race but we caught the speed wc gt race which was fun..but i didn't have my camera on me because when we first got there it was raining. it cleared up that friday and stayed clear the rest of the time.

audi r10 in the lead. you can tell its in the lead because of the single green light. if it were in 2nd or third in its class, there would be 2 or 3 lights on...anything after that you have no lights on the side there. each class has different colored lights so you can tell who is who and whatnot. there are 4 classes..p1, p2, gt1, gt2 ..they go in that order from fastest to slowest even though sometimes cars from lower classes beat higher classed cars. considering the length of this particular race (12 hours), its a challenge just to be able to finish. the audis are in the p1 category and are reigning champs.

these two pictures i took using some different settings...i am posting them to ask for any tips someone might have on how to improve these. i was trying to capture the movement of the cars by having the background a blur, but the cars in focus. i'm learning on my own, so i just have to play around with the settings until i find something that works, but i am not really sure what to do. thanks in advance. also, the first pic is a porsche gt3 rsr with some damage to the rear and the second pic is an aston martin db9r about to pass a porsche gt3 rsr.

the corvette that won the gt1 class; and the acura that won the p2 class had already been moved back towards the paddock area before i could squeeze in close enough to get pictures. i was pretty tired at this point and didn't feel like squeezing through a bunch of people. for that same reason i didn't really get any decent pics of the trophy ceremony this year. thats it.

i read an short article about hyosung once when i was taking a crap at my parents house..but i honestly can't remember what they said about them. i know it wasn't "avoid at all costs!" i think they are like hyundai or daewoo. hyundai used to be the shit company nobody wanted to buy from but have since come a long way in all areas and now have their foot in the door and are climbing their way up. hyosung is probably the same..at first they will be the punchline of many jokes, but maybe they'll roll with the punches and establish themselves as a quality company. they are cheap enough though...brand new 650 for $6,000.

doc -the first thing i thought was f1, but i'm not as familiar with the older cars..and i thought it looked a bit big for an f1 car. no clue though. a vette would be sweet. i like the old hard tops like a 63 split window. i really like the c5 and c6 though..especially the z06. i guess the z06 is a bit much for an everyday commuter though..granted my commute is only a few minutes and i don't drive a whole lot for the most part.

Here are some wood frogs I found on the night of March 16th in some woods near the industrial park. They migrate to vernal pools to breed on the first warm, rainy nights of spring. However, the temperature dropped from 45 by the time I got there to 36 by the time I left and, soonafter, the rain turned to snow. Some of them probably got caught out and froze, but most probably managed to find cover.

That whole night was pretty interesting. I was uneasy the whole time I was out there, probably because I'm not used to being in the woods at night by myself, and I never really feel fully comfortable in the woods near the industrial park. I'm not sure why. Little things kept unnerving me all night, like an owl that flew too fucking close to me. Later, I heard a fucking RACKET in the brush, and I turned to point my flashlight and it was about 6 or 7 deer that I had scared away. That's right, I got punked out by a gang of fucking DEER. I can't explain why a 230lb. woodland veteran who used to routinely explore abandoned buildings at much later and darker times (logically speaking, an activity a HELL of a lot more dangerous than looking for frogs at 9PM) without reservation was so uneasy, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. I found about 8 wood frogs and heard 3 spring peepers calling, though, so it was worth it.
