I've been camping for about 2 months straight and I got 1 more to go before I get an apartment. Life sucks and camping sucks. But its fun and I love it.
It just gets annoying after a month

Heh, it's "The Crack" at Wet Beaver Creek. It's in Arizona, closer to Sedona than the Grand Canyon.

That's some cool shit. Since I've gotten my digital camera last winter, I've taken pictures during every single snake hunt I've gone on. Are people here interested in pictures like that? I always thought people would find them boring, but your pictures are nice and people seem to respond well to them. I'm on dialup, though, so it'd be a bitch to upload the ones I haven't already.
I'm going snakehunting tomorrow, too, this time I'm going with a kid who is bringing his camcorder. That should be some cool shit, I've never seen how I look in the field.

No offense, but that's one of the weirdest fucking questions I've ever heard. It made me laugh out loud. Who the fuck would want to eat a snake? There wouldn't be a lot of good meat, it'd take a lot of snakes to make a meal. Some people in 3rd world countries eat the meat of certain viperids, and a while ago in this country people would eat rattlesnake and water snake meat. By all accounts it doesn't taste very good, my father ate rattlesnake in Texas when he was in the army.
I don't kill snakes, true snake hunters don't. Old fashioned "snake hunting" are a bunch of rednecks with shotguns thinking they are doing the world a favor by blowing black racers and corn snakes to bits. Most people who actually kill snakes don't know snakes very well. Anybody who does know snakes realizes that they are far too important to the ecosystem to destroy. Of course, half the people who kill snakes probably also shoot hawks out of the sky.
I have no idea why people don't appreciate carnivores.
Anyway, I'm interested in the biological aspects and natural history of reptiles in general, and in Massachusetts, the most common reptiles are snakes, so growing up I quickly specialized in that area. I also learned a lot about turtles. Unfortunately, there are no lizards in Massachusetts, which has caused huge gaps in knowledge for me, as snakes (from an evolutionary aspect) are nothing more than highly advanced lizards. In fact, certain lizards are more closely related to snakes than they are to other lizards.
For the record, snake hunting equates to one of two things, either-
1. Snake collecting, which I rarely do, as I don't need any more mouths to feed.
2. Snake observing, which I do as often as I possibly can, this also includes taking the snakes home for a week or so for observation, as you can learn a lot this way.
Hunting is just another word for searching, like in an Easter Egg hunt, children don't murder Easter Eggs.
When I go snake hunting, it is really just looking for various animals, with the focal point being snakes, but other reptiles, amphibians, interesting mammals, and birds will also be documented. I love seeing birds of prey, especially when they have just caught something. Nothing beats predatory animals.

Dude, rattlesnake is some tastey shit. If you think it tastes bad, you haven't had it prepared right.

The tarantula is cool, I used to have a small 2 inch male for a pet, I wish it was a female because females are so much bigger and have cool little spawn, but alas, all I could catch was a male. It was on a beach and I put my stuff over his hole and he thought it was nighttime and came out to hunt but when I moved my stuff I saw him and I had a new pet. This wasn't in Australia though.
Snakes are good when cooked right, no doubt about that, but they can taste horribly wrong or kill you if you don't cook them right.

Another thing I'm sure hasn't been taken into account is the fact that there are around 2500 species of snake. That's a whole lot. Obviously not all of them are going to be good. Either way, I have no interest in eating snake. That would be not only weird and a waste of time, but also very counterproductive to my studies. Try to think about this- WHY WOULD I EAT ANIMALS I AM TRYING TO STUDY???
That would be like microbiologists eating petri dishes full of study bacteria. Holy shit, that sounds weird.

I love going camping.. I go camping maybe 4 times a year for a few nights and then a fortnight in January.
I have had so many good times and have very fond memories that I couldn't even possibly sum it up with one sentence or even a page of writing. Fuck, I shouldve kept a diary.
As gay as the word 'scouts' is, and the stereotype people have on it, it's by far one of the best things in my present life.
