why do some threads have ratings on them. i know some people might think that this is a stupid thread, but im just curious?

i'm rating this thread a 1
back in the day, when i was bored and didn't have a better way to spend my time, i would rate all the threads i liked
and then when i was even more bored, i would sort the forum by rating, and i'd have all the good threads for me to revisit! and possibly bump.
