Guitar-15 years alltogether, first 5 just toying around, no lessons or anything, then 10 years consecutively.
Bass-5 years. Started playing bass when I formed my mini-band Black Earth. No lessons.
Drums-1 year. My cousin Jerry had a Pearl Export kit, double bass, 7 piece.
Fucked with it whenever I came over by his house.
Vocals-Started death metal vocals for a band called "Crepitus" back in 1990. Guitarist Jim", who is now playing bass in the band "Fleshgrind", formed this band back when we were in high school. I was the only candidate for death vocals at the time. Band didn't last too long unfortunately. My experience has paid off though. I can do voices in the likes of "Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm, Deicide, Obituary!..and my own hellish-demonic voices..heh..

Yeh, i gave up the "Cornet" in about 48 hrs. Its too messy... and everything sounded like a fart. Plus my music teacher was gay, the only good side of playing that instrument was it got me outta math (we were learning division.... math isent my friend)

Seems quite a # of you all take voice classes. What for? I do it because it's a co-requisite for Theory. That's how it works here at uni. Takeikng theory 1, Aural 1, and piano 1, and so on up to 4.

Guitar like 2-3 years but that was in school on music class and it wasnt hard at all, but electric guitar is one year when i get 15.
Ive played bass in 2-3, music class in school.
Ive played piano in 2-3, music class in school.
Drums in a punk band for 2 years, i sucked badly, but so did the other members of the banD!
BTW i kinda was the music teachers puppet until he discovered i played thrash metal and all that.

What do u mean by play? Like, either, own a guitar? Play MUSIC? The first year of lessons? Like yeah, i didnt start PLAYING, untill the second or third year, that was after i discoverd tabs...

I'm 20 now, I got my guitar the day before my 15th birthday. 5 years and 25 days. Nobody taught me shit. Well, the guy who used to live upstairs from me when I was a kid taught me how to play the Led Zeppelin song "Black Dog", but other than that, I'm self taught. I wish I wasn't self taught. I'd be so much better if I had taken lessons. No big deal though, I don't ever plan on going pro.  |
