question about soulseek
to everyone who uses this program, do you have a lot of problems when it comes to connecting to the server?
i wasn't able to connect all day and all it says is "the server is temporarily down."
does this happen to you as well or is just me?

Yeah it happens sometimes.
While we're on the subject, what do you think the music industry will become in the future ?
I see it rapidly transforming into a huge free market where anyone can get anything they want (music, videos, etc.). Most (EDIT : Some local) artists won't be able to live exclusively with the benefices of their sales, which will restrain the possibility for them to even release anything (I guess).
That being said, I'm constantly buying albums to support the bands I like, and I assume most of the people here on metaltabs.com do that. At least I hope so. Am I idealizing right now ?
I have a funny story, there's this band here in Quebec called "Les Cowboys Fringuants" which I absolutely hate, but that's not the point. They toured in France recently, and the crowd was really huge and excited, it was really impressing. The fact is, none of their albums is actually distributed in France. So in this particular case, the Internet mp3 sharing really helped spreading their music internationally, which is kind of cool.
I guess it's hard to defend a clear opinion about that, because the parameters are infinite. But I'd like to know anyway, what you all think about that.

if the quality of life of current artists is of any indication, i dont think free file-sharing on the internet is that serious.
besides, most people who download a, let's say, Justin Timberlake album, will eventually buy the original.

I think the internet can be a good thing. It actually helps me buy a lot of albums. If i hadn't heard any death metal from the internet i would have never considered buying it. Now im definetely going to buy some albums all because of the internet.
It can also be bad because some of my friends and people i know think im stupid for buying cd's and they just say "burn it off the internet". My one friend has like 15 whole cds that he burnt, i get pissed off at him every time he burns a whole album. That's the kind of bullshit that bands get upset at.
And by the way is soulseek free?

Darko introduced me to Soulseek yesterday. I had never heard of it before. It seem like a good program. I searched for Vinterland and other less known bands and it found a shitload...I mean a shitload of files. It looks very promising.
Thanks Darko
By the way...Vinterland is great

Weeeeeellll, this is the proverbial can 'o worms, isn't it? No, it seems kind of simple (especially when you sit solidly in one camp). Artists are probably not going to make a great deal less money if the music industry as it currently stands goes belly up, there'll just be more ex-PR executives roaming the streets offering hand jobs for cash.
I think all the Napster hysteria was more-or-less a public freak-out by companies which were finally becoming monstrously profitable without having to hardly lift a finger. Access to musical instruments of all sorts, more influences, & a whole bunch of new computer-aided musical tools means the western world is pumping out all sorts of shit at a huge rate.
People know that if they want the 'whole package' as it were, they're going to have to buy the cd, & plenty of people still do. That's what being a fan is all about. But the simple fact is there's too many artists out there to take in by buying cds & listening to shit radio stations, so you 'advertise' by having your shit ripped off & plastered all over the net, & then voila: Fans.
Yay for file sharing. Fuck you Metallica.

That, and more people are probably only sharing files to people on their list. Go in chats and just look at peoples files or ask if anyone has the album your looking for. Chances are they do.
The best thing is the Wishlist though. It is such a great idea.

I got another question about Soulseek:
Concerning the search bar. What are term, -term, ''term'', *term?
If I got an incomplete file, do I search, *term. Ex: *roadkill extravaganza?
Is it going to search only incomplete files?
I tried several things but nothing works.
I hope that someone knows

It's the same as a search engine:
-term removes everything with "term" from the search
+term search has to include "term"
*term searches for anything with ________term.

HELP!!!!!!!
I need fucking help!!!
My PC was fucked up again and again since the beginning of 2004.
Bought new graphic card (the old one was to bad), new RAM-stick (the old one didn't work), new hard-drive (old one had head-crash) and a new mainborad (the old one didn't work with the new graphic-card).
And i lost 10GB of mp3's.
As you can see, i'm pretty much fucked. I had soulseek and lost it (see above). I wanted to download it. But now there's some sort of a dialer. I have to type in 3x OK and if i do, i get a dialer which costs 29,95€/dial.
So please can someone send me a set-up of soulseek via e-mail?
Send it to Dierk.Poether@t-online.de
Thanks!!!

IS there an actual metaltabs room?
I just got slsk yesterday, and i've already got tracks from about 10 different bands, and i'll be buying CDs off most of them.
Captain Cleanoff, Psycroptic, Cephalic Carnage, Anal Cunt, CoB, Immolation, Bathory.
As you can see im a n00b because most of those bands are pretty well known

Metaltabs.com is the room name. I am lonely
it won't be in the room list so right click and click "create room" then type in the name of the room. You will join it
