Daawww, thanks guys. I was pretty hurt/surprised Paddy didn't get to it first, but he's been going through a lot lately as he finally fell in love, but she was slaughtered the next day. I spent the weekend kayaking and snorkeling on an island off the coast of Cali where my gf works/lives for the summer. It was nice, although people that live on small islands are just as bad as people that live in small isolated towns in some parts of the midwest/south. I've tilted them "beachbillies".

I hate putting on wetsuits when they're damp, but other than that I think they're the greatest thing ever. Peeing in them feels AMAZING if its colder than usual.

It rained on Thursday, but other than that pretty sunny. I really enjoyed having a beer in the rain on the beach though. And it shut everyone the fuck up.

Ah so it wasn't much different from mainland. It was humid as hell here for the last half of the week. It felt like east coast weather.

I never got on the island, just went near it twice on a big Gray ship. The USS Gray FF1054, destroyer escort or fast ,whichever you want to call it. And I went under the Coronado Bridge before I ever went over it, too.

Yeah it was pretty hot and muggy in the mornings but cleared up.


You didn't miss out on much. Avalon, the main town, is quaint from a distance but when you're in it its just really touristy, kitsch, and expensive (and the bay is like the 2nd dirtiest in the state). There is some good hiking and fishing but its a lot better at Two Harbors where I was which is a lot more remote and and pretty. You can do all there is to do in two days (though I could snorkel there for a good full day as it was really awesome, stingrays and sharks EVERYWHERE). There are some dudes there that spear fish every morning so I'm hoping if I go again before her work contract ends I can hook up with them and see if they'll teach me. They made some awesome ceviche with fresh caught halibut.

The first time I went to Avalon was in high school with a couple friends and we all dropped acid. Never again.

And just for clarification, I asked my hubby about Goat Island. I was in the wrong place remembering that one! It's up by Niagara Falls. lol

I think the best view I ever had of Catalina was from up on Mt. Laguna at a place called Kitchen Creek. I think it was part of the Cleveland National Forest. There was a clearing up where we used to 4wheel and you could see it off in the distance. Beautiful. Got some really awesome rooster tails driving the Scout through a big mud hole up there, too.
