he meant Crate, I guess.
Crate sucks, even their expensive tube tops aren't really special, but their amps are pretty cheap. thats the good point.

well, yeah generally speaking, but their cheaps so I guess you don't pay for an awsome amp. but I don't think they're great at all... they make ok practise amps but their tops are crap, though not really expensive.
I can't see why someone would say its the best amp they've tried, prolly never tried some real descent amps?

Well around here all we have in amps are marshall mg's, and avt's. fenders, peavey's, and a few line 6. Hell, im the only one around who has/played a randall.

crate..... the tube stuff is pretty good, and reasonably priced. but their ss stuff is cheap and sounds like it too. except their older discontinued s.s. heads are pretty decent.
my other guitarist has a blue voodoo, 120w tube head on a marshall 1960a 4x12, and it is pretty sweet, especially seeing how he got it of ebay for $325 american, which is a major steal. but he's trying to sell it and get a peavey 5150 II head.

jack from cannibal corpse was using a 300w tube crate blue voodoo pushing a pair of crate cabs, and pat was using a triple rectifier and a pair of crate cabs when i saw them a few weeks ago, then in the dvd that came with their new cd, jack said he used the bv for there cd, in fact he's been a crate guy for awhile now, but he switched to the 300w blue voodoos. and i think they both have pretty good tone.
as for my band, our other guitarist has the normal 120w version, and he gets some killer sounds out of it. especially considering how cheap he bought it for.

If you have peaveys around you to play, then find that kid who said crate was the best amp he played, and shit him next to a 5150, or a XXX even a XXL is good (for solid state)

i ment the xxl sorry about that, but the others he didn't care for, i've played on the 5150, and i liked it. Maybe I should stop listening to him, hell he likes fender amps (i dont know why either).

fender makes awesome amps.... just not for metal.
crate amps arent SUPER anything, they're just reasonably priced amps. some are better than others.
and he must be going def if he says any crate is amazing, but then says he doesnt care for the 5150 or triple x.

A B-52 is cheaper and a better solid state amp than a crate.

B52 s.s. isnt half bad, but the tube B52 i played, was extremely cheap for how good it sounded, though it was no 5150 or recto.

The low end on the Peavey XXL is pretty sad. When you push the bass knobs up on it it just doesn't give you a nice chunk. My Randall however has awesome low end.

The B-52's are american made, so maybe thats why there none where you live. Their at almost every guitar center here http://www.b-52stealthseries.com//start.html get one of their free catalogs, i dunno if they send the internationally though.

I dont know how much the crates youre all talking about are worth but when i checked them out i only tried the line 6 amps and crate. The crate sounded better because it didnt sound as artificial as the line 6s they had.Im staying at a $300 or less price range and i found a crate that i thought might of been good "XT65R 65W Guitar Combo " its probaly not that one but it was one similar that came with a footswitch. Is that amp any good?If not what amp do you suggest getting?

you can get a blue voodoo off ebay for about $300(give or take about $100) easy, my buddy got the 120w head for $325, it was $380 after shipping, but considering a new one right out of guitar center would have costed him $800 i'd say he did good.
they have a 60w version of the head that you could probably get for a little less than the 120w one, and they also have a 60w 2x12 combo version too if you're looking for an affordable tube combo.
i'd say to stay away from their s.s. stuff because they sound like cheap amps(and they are ... ).
but the tube stuff they got is great for the money, the stealth series and the blue voodoo's are good tube amps for metal, and they go for pretty cheap.

Just save up and get a 5150, their fairly inexspensive and you wont be disapointed, Their also built really strong. Ive never heard of ANYONES 5150 breaking down on them, I bought mine used and it s a 95' model and it works fine and still sounds great. You'll be much more sastified if you saved up for a good amp then buy an ok amp.

The problem though is that someone else is buying me the amp. I dont know how much theyll spend on me but they said not too much($500) and i dont want to push it by asking for a $400 one.

The crate amps are a little cheap but they sound good. For the money, they whip ass. And I am talking about the solid state stuff. Tube purists can kiss my ass. I've played them, I've heard them live, you can use these amps to get good tone, no problems. They are better made than B-52s without a doubt, they have more features than a lot of amps, and they are reliable, and you can get a half stack for $500. I don't work for crate. I believe what my ears tell me. If I were to need a head right now, I would buy a crate GT1200H.

i've owned a few crates in the past, a g1600 xl halfstack, a gfx 30 1x12,and an mx120 2x12. all were solid state and all only sounded "ok".
my buddy has his blue voodoo half stack over at my house and it beats the shit out of any ss crate ever.
i'm no "tube purist", but my mesa could whipe it's ass with that gt1200h any day.
by no means do crates completely blow or anything, but they're nothing to special either.

I have a 50w Crate Stealth tube head driving a Crate 4x12 with Celestions, and I have to say that I've been pretty happy with it - I don't gig or anything but for a practice amp it's more than good enough.

I had a gl200 stack or something like that (i dont remember the exact model) but i traded it for my marshall stack. I was very happy with the sound of the crate. It had a whole load of different sound options. I would buy it back if i could find it again.
