Advice...tuning guitar
What's the best way to tune to C without an electronic tuner.
Do I refernce the C note on the 5th string 3rd fret?

If your guitar is in std. tuning now, just fret teh 3rd fret on the A (5th) string, and tune your low E to one octave lower than the note you're fretting. Then tune according to your low "E" (which is now a C).

i highly suggest investing in a good tuner, if one of your strings is out then it will throw the whole tuning out

a tuner would be your best bet, but tuning to a cd for reference is also good, hatebreed tunes to c, as well as in flames, and cold.

if you play on the ninth fret on the sixth string and then tune it down the notes will ebentually match up. If you play on the fifth fret in standard tuning on the sixth string, it will be A. If you tune down the E and kepp playing the ninth fret, eventually it will come to be A and you can work it out from there.

I got a shitty 606 guitar effects pedal and the tuner kicks ass but the rest of it sucks.
