Amp Questions
I live in England, and i'm goin over to america soon for holiday etc anyway i need an amp and was just wonderin , if i buy an amp there, how would i get it to work in England, because we have a different voltage etc here (i dont no very much about it, but i know its different to america). Would it be worth it?
I was also wondering how bands who go on tour to other countries, use their amps? wouldnt there be a problem with the voltage and stuff
Many thanxs

youd probably need to get it adjusted, and if a band has enough money to go from country to country, they probably have enough money to buy the required equipment.

I think in America the mains supply is 230V while over here it's 250V. I should imagine that all you'd require is some sort of transformer or mains adaptor to step down our voltage to the American voltage. Don't know how you'd go about getting one (if you can at all) but I'm sure if you popped down to your local guitar shop they'd be happy to help out. I bet they get these sort of questions all the time since many people choose to buy gear over the internet these days.

I thought europe was 220/230 volts and the US was 110V's? Anyway my buddy has an old Ampeg head and it runnins off 110 Vs so he just uses a step down transformer, its a heavy thing.... You've probly seen one but done know it...

just use a rack power converter, it has surge protection and all that shit too... oh, be sure to own a rack amp too.
europe is just 220v everywhere.

The UK mains is 250V. Pretty sure the American mains supply is 230V - maybe one of the Yanks here could confirm/correct this?

I think the UK has a contractual obligation to be different to the rest of the world in every way just to make it difficult for people when they travel here!

Here in Canada, we don't have electricity.
We just stay huddled up in our log cabins and hump chicks all winter long to stay warm . It's gets so boring after a while.
above = lie
We got 110V here in Ontario.
I've heard that when bands travel (the ones with cash) just rent equipment when they tour other countrys.

most of the time, the label takes care of stuff like that, they just use other band's equipment if they're not really big. we played in germany too, just played the stuff of another band who let us, that was all arranged, so its all good.
really big bands probably rent stuff or are edorsed by marshall like slayer or something.

Usualy bands dont bring amps with them on tour as flying with heads and cabs is not fun, and it probably costs extra money. Most bands usualy get rent stuff. But anyway, I'm pretty sure you wont have troble finding something.

US *is* 110v, Europe is 220-230v, except the UK obviously.
It shouldn't be too difficult to find a power converter that will let you plug american plugs into UK/Europe outlets. Just make sure you get something that actually takes the voltage down, as there are many products which just adapt the plug shape, but still run the same voltage through it.
