I have just bought a guitar and I need help identifing exactly wat it is. It is an ibanez that looks like a gibson sg. It is a very dark brown colour, my teacher says its called mahogany. It has 2 volume knobs, 2 tone knobs and 3 humbucker pickups. It doesnt have that black scratchplate but it has a black platform that the volume knobs. My teacher has an idea that is a 1969-73 years guitar. It has no serial number and it has a bolt on neck and under the bolt on neck it has a made in Japan plate. I would like to know exactly wat its called and if it would be good for play metal like metallica. What pickips should i put in it to get it sounding a bit better. I would also like help on getting an amp. I have about $700-$800 australia to spend. My teacher is recommending a marshall jcm900 but i would like other suggetions or just tell me if u think that is the right choice.

Have u got any pics of the guitar? cos its pretty hard to tell wat it is by the description.Most guitars can be made to have a metallica tone, try it out and see wat u think.

Is it worth puting new pickups in? see whether u like the sound and if u dont chuck in some active EMG's or some Seymours. For amps, i dunno, perhaps an ENGl if ya have a lot of money, i dont exactly no wat 800 aussie dollars is.

Your obviously new to the guitar world. Well, in any case, do like what mordor said and test the guitar out, etc. Then you can decide what to do from there. And yeah. We definetely need a pic of it. And if I were you, I wouldn't get rid of that guitar! It sounds like a rare one!..

Now that you know what i have what pickups should I put in (i am thinking of an emg 85 for the rhythem and an 81 for solo and non distortion) but what spaces whould i put them in. I like the sound of the silver pickupbecause its fairly heavy but the other ones ae bassier. The two other sound the same as each other. So what spaces should i install them in and where should i move the silver 1. Also what amp should I get? Can i get a few suggestions. I will buy a second hand amp and $800 aussie = about 550-650 american i think.
