POWER AMP
Hello
I was looking for some input regarding purchasing a power amp. I currently own a Line 6 POD, and am looking to pair it up with a decent power amp. As I cannot afford a high-end Boogie or Marshall, the models I am looking at now are the Marshall 8008, the Crown XLS202, and a Mosvalve / Tubeoworks 962 or 1160. I have a two Marshall 4x12 JCM 800 cabs, but will most likely keep one for my 800 head, and the other for the POD. I've read a ton of reviews on each, and they all seem pretty good (although the Mosvalve models were getting the best reviews). Any experience with any of these?
Thanks!!!

they suck, well the marshall does, I've used it and am now looking into a descent tube poweramp.
if you don't have the cash, why don't you look at more used stuff, or save up some cash, you don't want to have a crappy tone do you?
out of those, the 8008 ain't bad, its pretty loud but it just sounds too SS to me, since you don't have a tube preamp that won't matter much to you I guess, go ahead and try it!

get a Peavey classic 50/50. I use that with my POD Pro and it sounds good. when you run it in mono you have 100watts pushing through 12 tubes (8 EL-84's ,2 12AX7's and 2 12AT7's. No noise when its cranked up. Great warm tone

you sure about those ada's? I've played some of their stuff, a preamp and an ss poweramp, both wheren't really good IMO.
that carvin amp dead posted looked nice, cheap too for what you get, shame they don't sell carvin over here so I can't try one out.... I'm looking for an Engl 830 or 910, and am considering a mesa 50/50 or 2:50. (used ofcourse)
the peavey classic 60/60 that I tried wasn't bad, though I like the agressiveness the Engl's and Mesa's have a bit more, if you talk money, the peavey is obviously the better deal though.

i was thinking about selling my mesa rack vtwin for an ada mp-1 with a three tube mod in it. ada makes great shit for dirt cheap imo.
www.adadepot.com -check it out.
the ada micro tube poweramps are pretty much like alot of other valve type poweramps.
s.s. poweramp with preamp tubes in it to warm up the signal to make it sound "tubey".

whats the use? I mean why get something like a tube amp but that isnt a true tube amp?
I've used ada stuff and wasn't impressed, but it was all used and relatively older stuff I guess...
anyone opinions on the peavey classic 50/50 (not the 60/60) its a 2he poweramp. its now gonna be a match for me between the engl 830/30 (2x30 but great!) the mesa 50/50 and the peavey 50/50... I can get them all around the same price, but haven't played the peavey yet... the engl kicks ass and the mesa is good, it looks kinda boring and it sounds boring too IMO, the engl has more balls.

POWER AMPS
Thanks for the help guys... I'm (hopefully) picking up a Mosvalve 962 this week. I've got a tubed JCM800 head (which is fantastic), and actually don't mind the solid-state sound too much, especially with the POD and V AMP. It will be nice to have another rig to play through, with a completely different tone.

those are the old 2x100 watters right? find a quad preamp with that and you're set
I like my engl preamp too much, I wonder in which combination it will sound at its best, my hunch is the 50/50... (I like mesa amps but not their preamps, the triaxis really wasn't my thing, same goes for the marshall JMP)
the Engl preamp is great, what also makes a lot of difference with other amps is that the distortion is created by the tubes and not by op-amps (=transistor). This makes a lot of difference; for instance the Marshall JCM900, JMP-1 and the Valvestate series, use the tubes only to COLOR the distortion, NOT to create it. (read that on a website of a Quad owner, it has the same system as engl, no transistor digital crap like the jmp/triaxis)
the only thing is, the 530 is more versatile then the 620, it doesn't have a shared EQ, if you switch channels a lot, the 530 is the better pick.

on another note, if you want the best deal of a poweramp ever, theres an extremely rare 9200 on ebay!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&category=10171
its the same (old) model range as the 530 and 620, if its as good as the current engl poweramps, this thing must rock the shit out of other poweramps in its price range (and above) 500 bucks ain't shit for that kind of gear, a new engl poweramp will now set you back for at least 1300... (starting from..)

if it isnt to late, i'd like to suggest a roland jc-120 for your cleans, seeing how you have a jcm 800 that would do great as a dirty amp, so why not get another amp just for your cleans? then you could take the rest of the money and buy a new guitar or something.
and for def, a 2:90 = 2x 90w, a 2:95 = 2x95w, a 2:100 = 2x100w, ect. so then when i get me a 3:95 i can take over the world

it would be a 2:100 or a 100/100 if it were 2x100w..

i don't know about that tube freak guy or what ever. at one point he's saying the 3:95 is 2x100 watts and then a few paragraphs later he says it's only 2x90w.
i'm still gonna get one regardless, but nobody seems to know alot of the specifics.

it sure as hell isn't 3x95 if that was what you are thinking... that wouldn't even make sense either, its a stereo amp, theres nothing like a 3 channel amp if you look at the ammount of tubes in it.
the most brutal mesa out there is the Mesa / Boogie Recto 2:100,
2 x 100 Watt, Class A/B 8x6l6, 3x12AX7, has a bias switcher (6l6/el34') shame its 2400 bucks

i wouldnt spend $2,400 on one of those mesa recto 2/100 poweramps.
i like the mesa simul state poweramps the best anyways, either that or i've also been becoming quite fond of vht poweramps lately.

we don't have those over here, at least, not many.
we on the other hand have the Hughes & kettner VS250 poweramp, best one I've played, has 6 damn tubes per channel and a british/english prescense control too... neato poweramp but it costs a fortune, its from the time H&K still made really good rackstuff, they stopped with that ages ago.
on another note, how much is a peavey 60/60 worth? I know someone else who is selling it on ebay here, I have played a classic 50/50 and was impressed because for its price, nothing comes close. a mesa 50/50 is like twice as much, and an engl even more.

yesterday there was a cs60/60 on ebay.de for 280 dollars, but I didn't get it, I could have, but I'm just not sure about them, the 50/50 was ok, but not special....
I kinda liked the H&K VS250... choices choices... the only thing I'm not gonna get is a marshall poweramp, I tried most of them now and simply didnt like them much, I'de rather have a mesa or engl half the marshall's wattage. marshall just isn't me I guess.

i don't think most the marshall poweramps are worth the money they go for.
h&k however.... i've loved every tube-anything of theirs that i've played, so i'd suggest looking into that for sure.
but i still think the peaveys are great for their prices.

yeah, they're the cheapest tube poweramps around.
h&k used to make great rackgear back in the day, shame they stopped producing it. just look at the acces preamp!!!
I think you need a Mesa Strategy 400 or maybe the 500 even but those are rare, the 400 is 2x200w tube

fuck yeah, i'm going to get a whole nother rack just for my poweramp section.
i'm just scanning for good deals on stuff like the simul state/class's like the 2:90,2:95,3:95,2:100 and such, as well as the strategies and a couple other odd ball HIGH POWER tube poweramps, preferably mesa.
and hopefully soon i'll be trading in my faithful vtwin for an engl pre like the 530 or something.......... there i go again, drooling over future gear.
