question about emg hz

do emg-hz pickups have batteries in them? I have a Kerry King Signature Series and it has EMG's in them and someone told me they have 9 volts in them. is it true?

The emg-hz doesn't use a 9v battery because it is a passive pickup. The Kerry King guitar might use batteries if it uses active emgs, but if it uses hzs then no.

Both. Theirs better passive and and i think they put the EMG name to shame. I played a guitar with the 81 85 setup then played a hz thinking it was gonna be awesome aswell.... and it wasent

Just like many other brands, EMG have apparently started producing budget/OEM-lines. I don't think it puts the name to shame anymore than Seymore Duncan are put to shame by the Duncan Designed name.
Just MO though.

Thumbs down

hz's are muddy ( even in clean!) and overall dont sound that great, compared to actives. and they also have an extremely bassy tone.

hz's just kinda suck overall, so i am planning on changing them out for some duncans, prolly an invader in the bridge and a jazz in the neck.

There just overwound passive pickups. Nothing special about them. I think they were designed for heavy slow stuff since there kinda deep and muddy. Or maybe they really didnt put much thought into them?

maybe they tried to get too deep of a sound out of passives and it didn't go over well?
