The different kinds of tuning
I've been playing for about a year now, and I don't know how D-tune, Drop
down half a step or a whole step, I don't understand any of it, plus I don't
have a tuner so could someone help me and explain what all that stuff means.

what's there to understand? you tune down and you have downtuning. And if you can't tune it, just download some program which will play D or Eb or whatever you want to tune to on your computer and that's it. It's not hard really.

"D-tune"
Don't bother with Dropped tuning. Fuck,it's becoming the standard tuning of 'rock' these days.

If you want to Drop D, if you don't have a chromatic tuner.
Put your finger on fret two, and then, when it goes to 0 on your meter, then you dropped D, and it must say it's on the D string even if you are on the Low E string, I never tuned to Drop D, I just stick to Standard Tunning, so if it's wrong, bleh.

Easier way to Drop-D. (even though i hate the tunning)
You know how you always tune the 5th fret on E to match the open on A? Well, to make it Drop-D, instead of the 5th fret, make it the 7th fret. Once the 7th fret soudns like the open A, you're in drop D.

Yeah, that's what I basically said, but then I said it the way you would be using a tuner. Here's something, every letter = half a step, each half a step = 1 fret, taht should make it way easier for you MM.

Dropped tuning was originally for Jazz and Classical style's only. The 'hard rockers' that use the tuning know, just don't know how to use it. Well, they use it incorrectly.
Every trendy band you see now days....all Drop A, Drop Db, Drop D, Drop C#...I'm getting tired of the word 'Dropped'.

Listen for modulation. Play the open E and D strings and down-tune the E until there's no "wavey" sound. If you want to tune the whole guitar down one whole step then tune the guitar like you would normally using your newly "detuned" E as a base.

first, get yourself a tuner so that you can actually be in standard tuning when you start. now a half step is moving 1 fret on the guitar, a whole step is 2 frets...drop D tuning is the lowest string (E) dropped 1 whole step (2 frets) down, making it D...half step down tuning is tuning every string down 1 fret.
pretty simple stuff, but get a tuner, u may think your in standard now, but your most likely not

Tune your 3rd string down to the B. Then tune all the strings after that to it. This will make your high e (skinniest string) a C#. Then hit the low E and the high E and tune the Low E until it matches, then tune the rest. If you don't understand this then PM me.

not all the time is one fret equal half a step up. Note every note has a sharp/flat. B - C has no sharps or flats. Don't teach the boy wrong.
