why wouldn't they be? hell you can play deathmetal on a fender, who fucking cares what kinda guitar you use...
any guitar can sound brutal with the right amp (or even with a crap amp and some good distortion pedals)

I agree with Def. Play anything you like...
Except a Tele.

If I ever happen to be famous in any way, I'll make sure I play at least one DM song per gig on a hollowbody gibson.

I've played live with a Jackson, dinky reverse, a Washburn, dimebag series(I forget the model #, and a B.C Rich Warlock RG series. Right now though, I have an Ibanez Rg120 series, and an Ibanez EX series. Yeah, I agree with the guys above. I don't think it matters what guitar you use as long as it has good tone and heaviness.

Ouch! You must have one hell of a good amp to make that sound half decent!
Each to his own, I suppose.

actually, i put a duncan little '59 in the bridge, so i get more oomph. i got a 50 watt peavey classic, and a digitech metalmaster, so i get a pretty good sound.

just throw a high gain pickup in the bridge of any decent guitar and play it through a decent and amp and or pedal.
i love both of my ibanez guitars, for whatever style of music i'm playing. but my amp is the biggest factor in my killer tone.

if you must have an ibanez, an rg will kick an s's ass, no questions asked.
the rg is big beefy and the s is small frail looking and has a weak tone.

I have an Ibanez GSA60, I would tune to C# and that shit would sound fucking brutal with my cheap ass crate amp and Metal Zone unlike my JAckson where I have to do alot of shit to keep my action good while dtuning beyond Db. Also the Ibanez has a much thicker sound unlike my Jackson with EMG's which sound so thin and not bassy.

telecasters have super hero powers, i'd play a tele for any style of music.
i'm getting a 70's ish thinline tele and i'm gonna sand down the neck and throw some high gain pickups in it. it will be THE guitar. but i'm about a million dollers short of even worrying about that yet.

OK, we've found that you can get a death metal sound from any guitar (including a Tele) with the right equipment and modifications. But in my opinion, a Tele would be last on my mind for playing DM because it just doesn't look "right". I'd go for an Ibanez RG if I had the money.
Just as an aside, can anybody actually name a famous death metal guitarist who uses a Tele? I'm interested to know if there are any out there.

i think teles are more "metal" than strats, i don't like most fenderish guitars, except teles. but if you threw an 81 in the bridge of almost any guitar you could make it sound pretty mean.
who cares if a famous death metal guy plays a tele or not? i don't think people should buy an rg because "so and so uses it", or a bc because "blah blah" has one.
always go for your own personal taste.

Yes you're right, but I want to know if any famous DM guys actually do play a Tele because I can't think of any off the top of my head. It doesn't mean I'm suddenly going to become a Tele fan just because there are guys in DM bands who use them.

famous death metal guitarist? mm, most likely his band is crap. But I know that the guitarist/vocalist from Disease Infected used a Tele at their studio session and at some gigs.

1. Ibanez GSA60- I use that one on a crappy amp at school but its great with my boss distortion pedal.
2. Schecter Omen 6 2003, now thats a good guitar, only costed me like 100 bucks from a friend down the road.
3. Ibanez GRX20- I never really use this one, I just polish it a lot haha,
4. Ibanez GAX70... It's a great guitar, great tone, all around

Dallas and Karl from Nile use V's live. I very much doubt they use Strat's in the studio.

i use an Ibanez RG1570, Bc Rich Bronze series Warlock, zoom 505II, zoom GFX5.
for some reason my Ibanez is giving a really bad sound in the studios, maybe something to do with the pickups, either way, Ibanez guitars rock!

all three of those ibanez's are cheap crap compared to most middle-upper class s series and rg guitars. and that schecter guitar isnt so hot, but its probably the best of what you got. if i were you i would have just bough one nice rg or s, instead of three low end ibanez's, then you could use the omen as a backup or something.

If i9 where you id get a neck through guitar for the same price as a bolt on ibanez that still uses the locking nuts that goes all the way through the neck, thus killing sustain and leading to possible cracks later on.
