I was wondering which are the best woods for a guitar? some people said basswood, some said mahogany, some said rosewoods sucks.....I'm confused. I'd appreciate some help since I'll soon be buying a new guitar.
It depends what sound you are looking for. Almost all of a guitars tonal properties come from the wood, that us unless you load it up with pre-amps in the control cavity. Warmoth has a pretty comprhensive list of wood and their properties.

if you have active pickups, like emg 81s, it wont really matter to much what wood.

EMG do not sound the same in all guitars.
Actually it does drastically and I own and have owned enough guitars with EMG's to know this is true.

You just need to go out and try some guitars with different wood's and let your ears be the judge.
