I just cant get a cool sound of my VS65R, and my freakin DOD deathmetal pedal, it fucking sucks.
Does anybody in here have the same gear, i wouldt really help to know some examples of your tone settings.
Maybe itīs the DOD, shouldt probrtley consider bying another distorion pedal.

yeah, and the marshall vs series aren't all that you know...
I allways thought the DOD sucked, I allways preferred the MT-2, but whatever turns your clock!

if you use your clean channel, i'd suggest getting its settings exactly how you want them, then work with the pedal from there.
if you don't like the dod, sell it and buy something else.
i'd suggest the mesa vtwin or v-1 bottle rocket pedals.... real tube distortion from any amp.

I've got a DOD death metal and it aint as bad as wat people say. It served me proud until i got my gt6. and the sound is fucking heavy. U just have to tweak it until u get the right sound. I think my sound was
Bass: in middle, Treble: just under three quaters and Middle: at a quarter of the way. But i aint to sure, It sounded real good in my set though

i have a vs also but its a 100 watt head running through a jcm900 cab. i used to use a boss metal zone pedal but sold it right away cause it was horrible. I cant get a good sound either so maybe it is the valvestate amps altogether. I hear good and bad from them. Some days this amp fucking kicks ass and other days it sounds like a fender frontman 15w. i dont know what else to do other then sell it and buy a jcm head.

and Engl 620 tube pre through a marshall 8008 poweramp and a marshall 1960B cabinet,
the tube preamp makes the best of it, I'm getting a new poweramp soon because marshall valvestate stuff just sucks IMO.
btw, I don't use any pedals anymore, nothing can beat the distortion of my preamp loaded with Sovtek tubes

engl..... i'll be trading in my mesa for one soon . but yeah, marshall hasn't quite perfected the whole valve/hybrid amp idea yet, so i'd stay clear of that.
the only 'good' marshalls i've played that werent all tube was: the jmp-1(tubes warming up s.s./digital circutry), and the mode four(tube preamp, s.s. poweramp), but the mode four is rediculously exspensive for how much better a dsl 100 would sound for the same price.

I agree 100%. I own an avt50h and it is terrible. also distortion pedals will never match onboard distortion (maybe a line 6 could). in conclusion, distortion pedals and valvestate amps just suck. period. i say go modeling amps (Vox, Line 6, maybe even Fender) and tube (Peavey whos coming out with an amp for Satch, Marshall, etc.) for best quality.

if you go valve, don't go marshall, the mode4 is the only decent one, and for about the same price, you could get any jcm that could kick the shit out of it.
modeling amps are to harsh, cluttery, and cold sounding for my taste.
my buddy got a line 6 for christmas, and within a week he had to take it back because nobody could get it to sound good enough.
if you do go solid state, get a real analog ss amp, like a randall(not the warhead). or an old school crate.
most the amps i like are tube... the amp i play is tube(my pre & power amps).

I had a crate full stack from 1992 and it had the best sound i've ever heard. I traded it in for the vs100/jcm900 stack and that was a bad choice.

yeah, the newer s.s. crates primarily suck. but i used to have a g 1600 xl half stack, 160w of ss power, and the thing actually sounded great considering i bought it used for $300 head and cab, and it had celestion g12 65 speakers witch made it sound even better.
i think you made a good choice in the jcm 900 cab because greenbacks are sweet, but the valve head.... what were you thinking?

Oh ya for sure. That cab is awesome of course, but the valvestate head sucks. I got a good deal on it though so i dont feel too bad. Im gonna trade it for a different model next year.
Any suggestions what i should buy for around the same price? (and by that, i mean not $2000 heads that i obviously cant afford). I want to stick with marshall.
One with awsome distortion and tone without needing other crap to make it sound good.

if you want to stay marshall, and still get good tone, you'll have to go tube.
800's are great, if you don't need a clean channel, and even better if you like to play loud.
if you don't need alot of volume but you want a jcm 800, i'd say to get a 50w version and a 2x12 or even a 1x12 cab, so it will clip more at lower volumes. then when gig time comes, switch to 4x12 mode and crank that shit.
the jcm 2000s(dsl or tsl) are my favorite marshall heads.
and then there is always the jcm 900 that will match the cab, although it won't acheive nearly as much gain as a 2000, its still a great head.
