Yeah, I have an RP100 that I don't use anymore. It was a pretty good investment considering the price. However, I now own a Boss Me-50 which has far superior tone and effects, but it also cost a lot more. You get what you pay for as far as tone is concerned. The Rp100 would be a good investment in your situation.

I have a rp200 as well. It's worth it to pay a little more for the expression pedal.

i used to have an rp2000 when i started playing, and i thought it pretty cool at first, with 6 footswitches, the expression pedal, and all sorts of shit. but,
the distortions on it were all useless, no matter what i did, and the effects sound cheap on those things too. you might think you're creative and you need everything or even most of what that thing can do for you, down the road your just going to want the real thing, a nice amp with killer distortion, a pedal board with stompboxes, or an expensive midi effects unit.
i'd say, take that $80 or however much you have, go down to your local music store, test out some stompbox effects you like, pick which one(s) you need and/or like the most, then buy them, over a short period of time you'll have everything you need, nothing you don't, and you will have done it right the first time.

I just bought an Rp200 yesterday for $140. It's pretty good in my opinion. you have to mess around with it a little bit to get some shit, but it's worth it! Also, there's an accurate and detailed guitar tuner in there!.. It helps a hell of a lot with certain band tunings....:[
Now all I have to do is get a real decent amp. I used to have the Peavy 112 transtube series. I had to sell it last year due to having no job. It really sucked to get rid of it, but none the less, I'll get another one probably soon.
Right now, I just use an old practice amp that I call...The Hag"...

when i first started i thought my rp2000 was the shit, then, i bought a couple of real effects, pretty soon all i was using it for was floor tuner. that $140 could have bought you (1-4) "nice" pedals that you will actually get you a good/great effect(s). a little way down the road you'll be wishing you would have bought something nicer.
