EMG installation problem

I just got an emg 81 and the volume and tone controls that were included with it are connected by two wires. They aren't long enough though to fit into the existing holes in my ESP. I don't want to drill a new hole. Does anyone know if I can just unsolder the wires or just the wire with the small green thing and lenghen it. Will this work? Will this effect the tone ar all? I e-mailed emg but I haven't got a reponse yet. What do you guys think?

Pay 50$ and get it installed professionally, that way nothing will get fucked up......and on the slight possibility that it does, it will be covered and you'll get it fixed for free.

Your second option is to do it yourself and risk damaging the electronics inside the guitar, and having no warranty to fix it.

You can unsolder it if you want. At most you'll have to buy some wire or new pots which are like 3 bux each. It shouldnt affect tone unless you change the capcitaot or pot values. Personally i rather fuck around with sumthing than waste 50 bucks to have sum jerkoff do a 5 min job for 50 bux. Just wait for the emg e-mail, they always replied to my e-mails

don't pay some dude to put it in. get valuable experience doing it yourself. its real easy. just make sure you do it how emg tells you to.

Thanks for the input guys. I finally got a hold of emg and they said that there's no problem with just lengthening the two wires. I got it hooked up now and my guitar has never sounded better.
