Passive Pickup
I need to know of some good Passive pickups for death metal. I would get emg's but the control cavity is WAY to small to fit a battery And yes i did a search and found nothing to my interest

Have you looked into Bill Lawrence? Dime used to use them until Seymor Duncan ripped off the Quadrail Lawrence pickup.
a friend of mine uses the duncan Dime and loves it, or maybe look into a Duncan JB?
what kind of guitar are you putting the pups into as well? is routing not an option for a battery so you can use an EMG?

Its a Jackson RR2 and it has a nice transparent blu-ish finish. I dont have a router just a dremel. But even if i did route the unrouted part of the cavity (yes they only routed enough for the ONE volume and switch so i have this unrouted part of wood between the pot and the switch in the cavity) Man jackson does stupid shit. ONE FUCKIN VOLUME, NO TONE!! Now i gotta buy a concentric pot. But yes i have used a bill lawrence. I own the 500xl but i dont feel like waiting 6 months to get a reply then another 6 for them to make me a pickup.

try a seymour duncan SH-8 invader, (for the bridge!) comes pretty close to emg's if you talk brutality. though it has a different sound it roars more and its really tight...
my all time favorite passive pickup!!

Isent that the one blink 182 uses??? Thta kinda steered me away from it because IMO blink 182 isent very brutal. But if you say it is then i guess ill try it out. What about the neck?? I was thinkin a 59, any other suggestions??

meh.. i have seen silly pop-punk bands use emgs myself, but i guess just because a non-brutal band uses some kind of gear, that gear wouldnt contribute to a brutal sound.
most of the time its all 'bout the settings

I don't use them, I tried them on an RG (bridge) and they're good, try them for yourself and find out! who cares who plays them, if Abba played them I would like them too.
I doubt blink would use them. if they do, they turn out all the gain and bass. lol.
I have ibzUSA dimarzio tone zones in my RG750 and a dimarzio blue velvet in the mid position!

I think Nile use Invaders.
I'm also thinking of changing my bridge pick up
I'll probably get Invader(I play death metal mostly)

tom from blink 182 used invaders in his strats, but now he plays a gibson semi hollow. but just because blink used an invader doesnt mean it sucks, he also acheives his crap sounds from way nice amps, he has a mesa triple recto teamed up with a marshall jcm900 pushing three mesa 4x12s. and his tone is sooo basic and pussy it sickens me.
so, the lesson of all this is: even if you have the nicest equipment, you can still sound like shit.
i personally love the invader, but my favorite passive pickup is still the di marzio x2n.

Wow you seem to know Blink 182 pretty well
I use Seymour Duncan Invader pickups in the bridge position and it fucking rules Its sad that a (so called) guitarist named Tom uses them. I play death metal and this is the passive pickup for that.

dude don't go for invaders, they are brutal sure but have a crappy overall tone. GO JB/59! fuckin arch enemy uses that and their tone can rip ur nuts off! DO NOT USE EVOS! they are high output yes, but they are very smooth, very very very very very little crunch, and they have many overtones so it's very bell-like. It would be like using butter on something designed for hot sauce!
I use emgs in my two metal guitars, and i use evo's in my souped up JAZZY fat strat with a dimarzio hs-2 in the middle. That should be warning enough for u to steer clear of it for metal.

the gibson burstbucker pickups get great tone and still have pretty high output, a bit more expensive than most duncan and dimarzio pickups, but i think they also have a more colorful sound.

the invader is pretty good, got one in my ibanez, but i've got a custom/custom in the bridge on my v and that sounds pretty kickass, but doesn't have much low end, for the neck, i'd prob go with a pearly gates or 59

obviously you don't know of many... the dimarzio xzn and multibucker both have way high output. gibson burstbuckers are pretty hot, and they have "tone". i've heard some good reviews on the new gibson dirty fingers being pretty heav' as well.

I'm sorta looking for a good humbucker that would fit into a single coil place for the neck pickup. I was thinking that one mini Seymour Duncan JB? Any other good mini humbuckers that you know of?

How would the JB jr work in the neck? And would a mini 59 work good too?
I'll look on ebay for that one hotrails BLS.
EDIT: Ok, I looked on ebay and theres some of those hot rails for like $15 and its ending in 6 hours. I think I'll buy it if it stays low and you think its really a good pickup.

JB wouldnt work well in the neck, its a bridge pickup. But a mini 59 would be great in the neck.

do you think I should bid on it? Like I know its a good price but do you think I would like it for the neck pos on my guitar?
BTW, my guitars config is h/s/s and with no faceplate. So would this pickup mount easily or not? Cuz it says its for a strat...

The mounting is my main concern.
The lead does look short but I dont think it'll be that huge of a problem.

yeah they're not bad for bridge pos, I had one in my punk'd out strat, it was pretty heavy too and it sounded more then a humbucker then a single coil. (hence the hotrails thing)
I wouldn't recommend them for the neck pos though
