Chord riffs & melodies: the volume difference...

Hi

Ok so when you record a song which contains two guitar(line)s, and one of the guitars plays a guiding melody (along with chords) or a solo-like thing; did it ever occur to you that the melody comes *way* over the chords/riffs in terms of volume, i.e. the melody draws to much attention to itself (chords automatically to background...) while it should be about the same level as the chords.

It's shit to arrange every tiny melody separately for the volume because both guitars play them alternately and they are sometimes very short and fast.

How do you solve this?

most of the time its all about the melody in a song, anything other is just there to suport it

Yeah but you see,

it's like a pretty fast riff and the melody is just there in the second guitar to put some variation (in tune height) in the riffing...

but since it's more simple than the actual riff, you mostly hear this slower melody while you actually need to hear the main riff pretty good as well (or the aspect of speed is lost)

Production is extreamly important. If you really like the song then you wont mind taking the time to lower or rasie volume levels.

you can do it with some audio software if you were able to keep the tracks separate.

do your guitars have independent volume switches? i can just flip up to the neck and set my neck pickup to have higher output, then flip back to the bridge which could be set at a lower volume.
