Engl V60 cab?
does anyone know how good those Engl cabs are?
I can get one for like 300 bucks used, its in good shape too, about 2 years old, 240w mono
http://www.ppc-music.de/exec/image~...ad17ce~400.html
I'm kinda wondering if I should go for a standard 1960 marshall cab or this baby, I'm saving up for a nice Engl head, so maybe this'll sound better in combination, it sure does look better anyways.

very nice, and it would look cool with the engl head your planning on getting, but i also suggest the marshall 1960 or a 5150 cab, they both get great low end. you could also check into something at www.avatarspeakers.com, they'll put what ever eminence or celestion speakers you want in em. and they're sooo reasonably priced.

yeah, those avatars look allright but we don't get them here, at all.
also I'm kinda looking for used stuff since I don't have much to spend at the moment (gotta buy the amp top too...) I'm actually chasing down a richie blackmore engl signature top, but I don't know if its in good condition and shit like that.
anyways, the cab looks allright, its mono though, but it doesn't really harm me, the 1960 cabs are available enough here too, but I really don't know which is better. the peavey cabs sounded a bit 'mid' oriented, I played the xxx/xxl and 5150's through their cabs and they all sounded a bit mid-boosted(?) not really my thing, I think I'de rather have a marshall or engl cab then. (the peavey cabs are really cheap though)

for the money, marshall and peavey stuff is great. i have two vintage style peavey cabs, that i'm customly decking out so i can finally stop with my buy, sell, trade, borrow trend. its gonna be the shit.... celestion v30's and sheffeild 1290's.
its gonna be unique looking and amazing sounding... but most of all... cheap!
just find a quality constructed cab with either cheap speakers or none at all, then go on ebay or something and buy the speakers of your choice to load into the cab... walla, a bitchn' cab that all your friends will be jealous of, for dirt cheap.
or.... the carvin legacy cabs w/ v30's go for alot cheaper than the mesa and marshall cabs with em'.
what ever suits your ears and your wallet, i'm just throwing out ideas.

yeah, sounds interesting, I'm kinda looking at a 1960b cab now (400) because I'm gonna have a rack anyways, the ENGL was sold yesterday to someone else, but it was only mono (booo)
I also see a lot of peavey stuff here for sale, mainly 5150 cabs, but they tend to have that -mid-boost thing going, is that just the 5150 or the cab configuration? (like, if you leave everything on the amp at 12)

ahright, just got an email, I can get the 1960b cab, 300w stereo (yes) for 400, with a flightcase for an amp (4 spaces) that ain't bad huh?
might be checking it out real soon, I can also get the angled one but thats 450, plus it looks like shit with a rack on it so I'm gonna stick with the straight cab I reckon.
thinking of using it with an engl 620 tube preamp and a maybe a marshall 9200 or engl poweramp (the poweramp will be there when I get my next paycheck lol, obviously not this month)

an engle preamp would be kickass with a nice tube poweramp, through a 1960 cab, or even the 5150, i like the semi boosted mids you get out of sheffeild speakers, because i scoop my mids all the way out on my preamp, and leave them level on my graphic eq, so i get a scooped sound, but something about the tone just seems to cut through better because of it, instead of completly blending in with all the other low freqs like most amps or pedals will do.
but celestions are great alround speakers, and thats what you'll find in most mesas,h&ks,bogners, marshalls, randalls, ect.
i like the peavey classic 60/60 & 50/50 tube poweramps, because they sound just as good as a marshall or mesa 50/50, but they're easier on your wallet.
or i'd also suggest an ada microtube 200 poweramp, its not a true tube poweramp, but it sounds just like one. it uses a pair of preamp tubes to warm up/color a s.s. signal, and it only takes up one rack space. i like that because then you can fit more stuff in your rack, plus it still sounds warm & tubey,
besides, preamp tubes last alot longer than poweramp tubes do and s.s. is usually more dependable. and you can pick one up off ebay for way cheap.

Yeah, I'm kinda looking for a great preamp and an okay tube poweramp, like the ADA, we've got those here too.
the peavey's are pretty cheap yeah, the marshall 9200 seems good though but I haven't tried it (yet) I'm not a boogieman, not my kind of amps...
the engl poweramps cost a friggin fortune, but if I like the 9200 I might as well save up for an engl poweramp... (though nobody needs 2x100 watts..)

as long as you have a good preamp. i played through my PA's 1000w pyle poweramp when i first bought my preamp, it sounded fine at the time and for what i was using it for, but now i'm using stuff thats actually meant for guitar. and it does sound alot better. but it doesnt matter how nice your poweramp is if you have a shitty preamp. so don't cheap out on your pre just because you want a nicer poweramp.

Ahright, I bought a engl 620 preamp, its just a basic 2 channel but damn... it sounds great!
I've played the marshall jmp-1 (?) and the triaxis, which are both a pain in the ass to use, it'll take you ages just to dail in a tone for christs sake!
Plus, they're both overpriced... the Engl has a much more brutal distortion and isn't digital, it has real tubes and you can definetly hear it too, I can also hook up MIDI onto it, but I wouldn't use it, its a nice extra though.
Gonna check out the 1960 cab monday and buy the flightcase anyways, don't know about the cabs state, but now I'm gonna need the heavy flightcase so I'll buy that for sure. I don't have the cash to buy a nice poweramp now, but a store in Utrecht has a mesa boogie 50/50, I heard those where badass. might try it and save up for that, if its worth it. its prolly just as expensive as the most badass marshall. though I'm not keen on marshall, if I'm gonna spend cash I'de rather get an Engl poweramp or a mesa, but I heard Mesa poweramps are really good, now I've just got to find out for myself too..

VHT, I'm not familiar with them, nor with Diezel, they're either incredibly expensive or just rare over here.... did you try any? if so what are they like?
I'm gonna look at the classic 60 (peavey) and the mesa 50/50 pretty soon, I'm kinda buggered out about the marshall 9100 and el34.... good amps but I didn't like their tone, they're not neutral at all, I want a little raw edge on the poweramp, but most of all I want the tone of my preamp.

if you don't want that "extra color" from a poweramp, i'd suggest going with higher wattage and/or 6L6 tubes, 6L6s don't breakup as fast as el34s, which is really good if you want fenderish cleans. and the reason why you'd want higher wattage is for headroom, when you crank a tube amp(like a jcm800), the distortion sounds better because the poweramp section is clipping which in most cases will make it sound alot better. so, if you don't want your poweramp to clip but you want to still be able to play loud, higher wattage will do the trick.
like lets say you have a marshall 20/20(40w bridged) poweramp next to a marshall 100/100 (200w bridged).when you play through the 20/20, it gets really loud, but it clips when cranked. with the 100/100, it is capable of reaching the same volume of the cranked 20/20 a bit earlier, and it won't be clipping as much or maybe not even at all.
but no matter what a tube poweramp will add(color) to tone, which most people like, so a ss poweramp might be another option if you're that anal about just wanting your preamp's sound. but alot of solid state poweramps so really harsh and shitty when they clip instead of sounding smooth and warm like tube poweramps, so if you go ss for your poweramp, i'd suggest getting one with really high wattage so it wont start clipping when you reach the volume levels you need.
vht and deizel stuff sounds f'n awsome, but its expensive.
the peavey classic series poweramps kick ass, and they're quite a bit cheaper than mesa, vht, deizel, ect. so i'd suggest them.

yeah, I'll try that peavey, I can get one used.
I can also get a marshall 8008, 2x80 valvestate, also used and from a friend, I'm gonna try it with my engl preamp and see what it sounds like...
I'm not a valvestate fan though, but it might sound descent with a tube preamp
