left hand tension
do you guys have any secret magic formula to keep the left hand/arm relaxed while playing? lately it seems as though i just cant get it to relax and it makes anything i play sound like shit(stacatto or just non-precise...cant even fscking play the flight of the bumblebee at 90 bpm like this )
ive tried every posture possible and it doesnt really seem to affect it...and it's really beginning to annoy me(hence making me tense up even more -_-)

If its when you stand, shorten your strap. Other than that just don't tense up and play a lot to get strength.
If its not that you could have juvenile arthritis.

go to a sports store and get one of those squeeze balls that work your grip. they're a couple bucks and they're just as good as those grip masters. maybe you just need to improve the strength so that you can really relax and still be able to fret your notes firmly. do you get really tired/sore when you play? if you do you really need one of these.
also, have you seen john petrucci's rock discipline? he has some great stretching warmups that might help you get your fingers more nimble.

I dont really get tired *that much*, it's just that it becomes a bit painful throughout the whole arm especially near my armpit (heh?)
as for john petrucci's rock discipline, i'm downloading it right now(amazon cant ship it to canada so...)

Am I the only one who never thinks about this kid of stuff? I never paid attention to how I fret things, how I pick, how relaxed/tense my arm is, I just play. I've devloped my own technique based around playability and comfort.
Oh practice the middle part of Dying Fetus' "One Shot, One Kill" to build up stamina.

try keeping your pointer finger straight and your wrist outwards (in the classical position, not in the blues/Hendrix position)
i just noticed this today when i was trying to do some legato exercises; they feel awkward when i keep my pointer finger bent.
