good death metal songs to start playing that genre
most of my metal experience is with acdc, gnr, black sabbath, etc. ive never gotten into much death metal, but i'd like to try. right now i'm playing flesh and the power it holds (death). what are some other good ones to practice sweeps on? and some good riffs to work on my right hand speed? maybe black metal, too.. i don't really play either of those two genres, so i just have no idea where to begin. i know there's tons of posts about good songs, but i'm looking for a couple of intermediate ones, mostly sweeping and tremelo picking. (or is that all death/black metal? :P).
i know i could look in the fun/easy/awesome thread.. but keep in mind that i haven't really liked these genres.. so maybe something to ease me into them?

ok here is a tip....
learn riffs/songs that u like to listen to....no point playing a certain genre if your heart isnt into it...
personally, i wouldnt bother learning a song if i didnt like it....cause i would hate playing it....nothing beats playing a song that u love...
so dont be a puppet....ok?

thank you for the concern over the integrity of my personal identity, but i'm alright with myself. actually, what got me interested was a post on the sweeps thread saying that the death song, which i'm liking a whole lot, was great for sweeps practice, and i realized that i liked the song, so i was hoping to find some more that would help practice the things i need practice on as well as get me more familiar with that type of music.

so basically you want song suggestions for bands that you might like, and that you would also like to learn how to play? okay
check out the Bands forum, and look for a few threads on deathmetal that are there, right now. like this one:
http://www.metaltabs.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=8
deathmetal songs are pretty hard (almost by definition, imo), so you could pick any random song and have some challenging etudes to play.

I think some Cannibal Corpse songs would be a good place to start, as they use the artificial harmonic a lot and it would be a good way to integrate it into fast playing.
Skinless has a nice crunchy, palm-muted sound, another important technique.
Suffocation and Children of Bodom are very technical bands, if you can find accurate tabs for their songs. The COB shit on metaltabs.com is pretty accurate, from the ones that I've looked at so far.
However...since you've been playing some pretty easy shit up to this point, you might not want to jump in to death metal..you might want to work up to it by learning some simpler stuff like old Metallica, Iced Earth, and Slayer to build your speed. I played on stuff like that for a long time before I attempted death metal songs.

depends on what kind of death metal, for some american detah metal try cannibal corpse or morbid angel, european death metal try grave, swedish melodic type death metal try in flames, dark tranquility, opeth, or amon amarth

i was really hopin to get some specific songs, sorry about the ambiguity. i dont have any idea which are particularly good ones, and can't just download 100 songs with my connection.. my roommates would get pissed. any top 1 or 2 songs that are a good intro to death metal.. from any of your favorite bands? i've seen all the names of the bands throughout this forum, but don't know which songs would be good for me.

You might try CANNIBAL CORPSE - HAMMER SMASHED FACE. It's pretty fun to play, but I still have problems with the harmonics...
If you want some badass melody, check DEATH - VOICE OF THE SOUL....
I can send you both PowerTab files, if you have that program.

I reckon that "Execration Text" by Nile is pretty awesome to play and should give you a workout on most DM techniques. Also try "Kheftiu Asar Butchiu" by Nile. It's got great riffs and some sweeps in the solo.
But my favourite DM song to play is "Destruction Of The Temple Of The Enemies Of Ra" also by Nile. It's one of their easiest songs (in comparison to most of their others anyway) but it's great to blast out.
The 6-string versions of the tabs for these songs are a coupla pages back in the Tab Posting Forum.

Inno A Santana
I Am the Black Wizards
And anything off "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" is good by Emperor.
Just download the powertab file and you really dont need the mp3.

Emperor Tabs..
I'm going to try to tab some Emperor as well...
Currently I'm working on Sinister, Exhumed and Asphyx.
I'll see what I'm can come up with.
I must say for the one tune I'm playing by Sinister ain't to easy
to play!... I know the same goes for Emperor and a few other bands
out there...

Anything by OMC. try Soul Possessed, that's easy as hell. Then learn the rest of the Pagan Prosperity, haha. I just finished SoulPossessed on tab, and some sepultura as well.

well anyway, back to the topic
you should try the song "Spheres of Madness" by Decapitated, atif has happened to make an awesome powertab of it at www.powertabs.net (even though it was unfairly misrated)!

vital remains - contains awesome solos and most of them arent so fast
deicide, nile, cannibal corpse, slayer, ...
